While appearing on ESPN’s morning show, “GetUp”, the former Bulls star expressed his disappointment over the NBA’s decision to suspend Draymond Green for 5 games. This comes after the player held Ruby Gobert in a headlock in the game against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night.
“I thought the league was extremely lenient. … When will the league set a tone, an example, that this will not be tolerated anymore?”

Williams had previously suggested a 10-game suspension for the player for the chokehold. While also shading Stephen A. Smith who called those against the decision soft, he expects the league to “set a tone” that this won’t be tolerated. “Choking somebody out and grabbing them is one thing”, he said. “He extended that”. The analyst on hearing Draymond after the match, doesn’t think the whole situation had any effect on him.
The question here is considering his history, will even 10 games stop Draymond from being Draymond?
This is not the first time for Draymond
The 3× NBA champion has a long history of suspensions coming out of a fight on the court. This has played a role in the length of his suspension as well with the NBA stating him to have “unsportsmanlike conduct”. This one is the fifth suspension of his career, the second ejection for this season, and the 19th of his career. The All-star got his second technical foul four days before this in a match against the Cleveland Cavaliers after getting into an altercation with Donovan Mitchell. But there is more to him than just a removal or ejection.

Green was suspended last season for Game 3 of the first round of playoffs for stomping on the chest of Sacramento’s Damantas Sabonis. The player faced suspension in 2018 for his altercation with his teammate, Kevin Durant in a regular season game against the Clippers. Green was also suspended for Game 5 of the 2016 NBA finals when he had his foul with LeBron James while already having three flagrant foul points during the playoffs. Something similar happened in 2022 with the player facing suspension for collecting his 16th technical foul of the year.
With Draymond’s being out till November 28, the Golden State Warriors may have to get used to the absence of the player.
