With the NBA Finals nearing its end, basketball fans have the next best thing that they can look forward to. It’s the Tokyo Olympics. However, with the exhibition games going on, the U.S. Men’s basketball news made some unfortunate announcement. The Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal will have to miss the Tokyo Olympics in light of the health and safety protocols. While this means a spot has just opened up on the roster, Trae Young doesn’t seem very happy about it.

Team USA gives their statement

Bradley Beal was a starter in all three of the exhibition games that the USA played. He was an excellent addition to the roster, especially after the stellar season he had. He was inches away from taking the scoring title away from Warriors’ Stephen Curry. In fact, Beal was an integral part in helping the USA win gold medals during the World Championship, as well as during the FIBA Americas Championship.

However, looks like Beal will be sitting this one out. “USA Basketball Men’s National Team point guard Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards), who was placed under USA Basketball’s health and safety protocols Wednesday, will remain in health and safety protocols and will be unable to participate in the July 23-August 8 Tokyo Olympic Games. A roster replacement will be named at a later time,” Team USA stated.

“Out of an abundance of caution, USA Basketball Men’s National Team member Jerami Grant has been placed under USA Basketball’s health and safety protocols.”

Is Trae Young not one of their choices?

As the search for someone to fill Beal’s shows is on, it seems like there is one player who is already out of consideration. Atlanta Hawks Trae Young posted a Tweet that indicates a possible snub from the USA men’s basketball team squad.

In just his third season, Trae led the Hawks to a successful NBA season and postseason. Although they could not go as far as the Eastern Conference Finals, they have established themselves as title contenders. Averaging 25.3 points and 9.3 assists this season, Young still did not meet the criteria to garner an invite?

Even though Ja Morant showed him some support, speculations about Miami Heat‘s Duncan Robinson making it to the team instead have started to make rounds.

Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, and Devin Booker are still battling to win the NBA title. So, they haven’t joined the team as well. This only puts more pressure on Team USA to fill Beal’s missing spot as soon as possible. Who do you think deserves it?
