The league finally has a new all-time scoring leader after almost four decades and the historic moment is still fresh in the minds of the NBA world. However, speculations of LeBron James‘ possible successor have already begun, and several names have already come up as likely candidates. In fact, days before breaking the record, ‘King James’ himself had mentioned a few players who he believed would be able to surpass him in the future. However, two Boston Celtics legends recently dismissed one NBA superstar from the list as James’ possible successor, with one reason given as to why.

Luka Doncic is only in his fifth NBA season in contrast to LeBron’s 20th, but the Slovenian basketball star has already established himself as one of the best active players in the league. The Dallas Mavericks star guard has already surpassed several NBA legends and superstars in various records and continues to gain favor among NBA fans with his stellar performances on the court.

Celtics legends say Luka Doncic can never match up to LeBron James

In the latest episode of SHOWTIME Basketball, NBA veterans Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce got to talking about LeBron James and the iconic game that will forever be remembered by fans. James finished the game with 38 points and now has a total of 38,390 points as the league’s all-time scoring leader. Evidently, there is no doubt that the total tally of points will be much higher by the time the Los Angeles Lakers superstar retires from the league. Considering that James made the major accomplishment at the age of 38, Pierce explained why Luka Doncic could not be the next scoring leader.

“Who on pace right now? Luka right now is on pace because you imagine…but Luka don’t have athleticism. So by the time he 38…” said Pierce. Garnett then cut in and added, “I don’t think Luka’s body…”?

Both Garnett and Pierce believed that Doncic wouldn’t be as fit as LeBron when he turns 38. Therefore, the NBA veterans felt that the Mavs superstar wouldn’t have the type of build necessary that would enable him to overthrow James one day.
