Gregg Popovich is a living legend when it comes to NBA coaches. Pop first joined as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs back in the 1996-97 season. Throughout his tenure, he led them to five NBA championships in twenty-four seasons as head coach. Now, rumors suggest that Pop might be heading to the Brooklyn Nets.
Since the beginning of the 2019-20 NBA season, there have been several rumors that Popovich will be gone by the end of the season. However, there has been no confirmation from either side.
NBA analyst and former NBA player Kendrick Perkins gave fans an update regarding Pop’s situation. He said:

“I heard Greg Pop got his house on the Market in San Antonio?! Wonder if he’s headed to the Big Apple to deal with Kyrie and old Kevin Durant?! If so the NBA is in Big TROUBLE next year.”

If we are to believe Perkins, the Brooklyn Nets could be the next destination for Popovich. To be honest, coaching Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving would be the best deal for the 71-year-old Popovich if he wants out of San Antonio.

Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant joined forces in the 2019 offseason, hoping to bring a ring to the city. However, both superstars faced injuries throughout. While Irving played only 20 games, Durant missed the entire season recovering from torn Achilles tendon in his right leg.
Moreover, the Nets front office fired head coach Kenny Atkinson. The fact that the Nets still made the Playoffs with their two superstars sidelined is remarkable. The roster is perfect for KD and Irving’s return, all they need is an excellent coach.
If Popovich leaves the Spurs, the Nets is definitely the best option for him. However, the Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers are also hunting for a head coach. But there is hardly any duo in the league that can go toe to toe with Irving and KD.

Additionally, Pop has coached both superstars for team USA. Thus, he has experience with how to handle both KD and Irving.
Will Gregg Popovich finally leave the Spurs? Or will he stay put for another season? The 2020-21 season will have the answer.
