The NBA’s viewership decline is turning into a serious issue. The appeal for the game among fans seems to be fast falling. And while several audience drivers have been suggested, what better than the iconic Christmas Day matchups? In particular, the NBA community will have their eyes drawn to a revived rivalry that defined an entire decade. It’s of course another clash between the two linchpins of the game – LeBron James and Stephen Curry.

The two living icons are born in the same hospital. Moreover, James had been a fan of the Chef since his college days at Davidson. But in the 2010s, they both reached unprecedented heights. For four straight years, the Cavaliers and Warriors met in the NBA Finals. From that moment, every Stephen Curry vs LeBron James matchup is a celebration. And this may be one of the last ones.

JJ Redick who now serves as a head coach for the Lakers admits suffering during the height of their rivalry. However, it’s rare for two of the biggest names of the sport to be in such recurring battles.

“I think it’s great to have two of the icons of this generation go head to head and have one for sure classic series and then also some classic games, some classic moments. I think for those guys also being teammates on the Olympic stage. Like they just have the ultimate respect for each other,” Redick claims.

Not speaking about viewership in particular, but Redick does feel historic rivalries work great for the league. “I think throughout the history of the NBA, player, and team rivalries have actually been really good for the league. That kind of captured a moment in our generation,” the Lakers HC said.

Likewise, reopening the vintage clash has injected excitement into the fans once again. LeBron James is in his twilight years. As for the Baby Face Assassin, he won’t be around for many years either. If another postseason fight isn’t in the books, this could potentially be the last big stake game between the two phenoms of this era.

Currently, LeBron James holds the lead over Stephen Curry, winning three of their four Christmas games. But on the day the lights will glitter the streets, the Warriors ace could get some payback. Who do you think will win in their clash? Let us know your views in the comments below.
