A sad news greeted the fans of popular comedian Erica Ash. After a long battle with breast cancer, the ‘In Contempt’ star passed away, surrounded by family and friends at the age of 46. Interestingly, acting wasn’t at the top of her to-do list. In fact, she pursued medicine initially before a trip to Japan turned her life around.
Having stumbled into a singing gig and modeling opportunity during her time in Japan, Ash decided to seriously pursue an entertainment career on her return to the States. Everybody knows what happened once Erica did that. She gifted us with some of the iconic characters and timeless performances with sketch comedy, MadTV, comedy-drama series, Survivor’s Remorse, Uncle Drew, and many more.
And it seems like LeBron James was also a fan of her work. Joining millions in mourning her death, the NBA superstar took to Instagram. James decided emojis would better capture his feelings about the saddening moment as he re-shared a post by his production company, Spring Hill. “🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾” James wrote as a caption for his IG story.

Of course, Bron wasn’t the only one who came forward. A colleague and co-star of Erica Ash was overcome with grief after hearing the shocking news.
Joining LeBron James in heartfelt tribute to Erica Ash was Olivia Munn
The X-Men: Apocalypse actress, Olivia Munn knows too well what it is to battle cancer. After all, she went through the worst of it all. And when she heard the news of her co-star in the 2021 film, Violet, Erica Ash’s passing away, Munn was shaken. Posting a clip of the movie where the two women shared the screen, she wrote, “So sad to hear about the passing of Erica Ash after a long battle with cancer. We worked together on the movie Violet that came out in 2021. She was a brilliant actor who brought so much to every moment. Rest in love.🕊️❤️”

Olivia was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in April 2023. Munn fought hard to survive the brutal onslaught of cancer. She had to undergo a double mastectomy after an MRI found luminal B — a fast-moving, aggressive cancer — in both of her breasts. If it only stopped there! The medication and treatment plans were just as rigorous and exhaustive. It left her with little to no energy for her 2-year-old little boy, Malcolm.
“I was just in bed all day long, all day long, and my quality of life was so minimal and I wasn’t able to be there for my baby,” she said in an interview with Good Morning America, having undergone four surgeries in 10 months. Munn continues her cancer battle successfully. And while Erica Ash had to ultimately depart the world, her story of strength and courage will continue to influence and encourage the 20+ million cancer patients in the world today.
