The Golden State Warriors‘ star guard, Stephen Curry, has been no stranger to success on the NBA’s biggest stage. But recently, he added another milestone to his illustrious career that holds a special place in his heart. Curry was honored and celebrated by Davidson College, where he once showcased his talents before dominating the professional basketball scene.

The school had a big impact on him, not just in basketball, but also in his personal growth and community involvement. Curry proclaimed during the ceremony, “I made the best decision of my life to come to Davidson College.”

Davidson College inducted Stephen Curry into their campus’s Hall of Fame and had his jersey number retired. He got his long-awaited graduation in a series of events that left no doubt about his impact on the campus. It was a day of success for the legendary player, achieving not only basketball goals but also a promise he made to his mother, Sonya, 13 years ago when he got declared for the NBA draft. Although Curry finished his degree in sociology, his NBA commitments kept him from attending the college’s graduation.

So, on this special day, he received his individual commencement, celebrating his academic achievement alongside his extraordinary basketball career. During his three years at Davidson College from 2006 to 2009, Curry became a legend. Setting records left and right, he became the school’s all-time leader in points, 3-pointers, free throws, field goals, and steals.

As shown in Curry’s documentary, Underrated, when his college professor asked him why he wants to complete his degree now, he had a very wholesome answer. Curry said, “One, for my Kids so that they can see the process. Now that they are a little older, they will understand how important this is. And also, I kinda got a handle on everything on the court and off the court more than I ever had.”

Unlike many superstars who spend just one year in college, Curry played three seasons for the Wildcats, leaving an indelible mark on the NCAA.

Curry’s high school basketball run

During his freshman year, Curry showcased his potential, averaging an impressive 21.5 points per game with a 46/40/85 shooting split.

His record-breaking 122 three-pointers, and 730 total points earned him recognition as one of the most promising young talents in college basketball. In his junior season, Curry reached new heights, leading the NCAA in scoring with an impressive 28.6 points per game and became the Southern Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
