Former basketball player JJ Reddick in a recent episode of his podcast, The Old Man and the Three with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter talked about Luka Doncic and his high hopes for the Mavericks. The team has had a great offseason so far. They were successful in acquiring Seth Curry and Grant Williams in free agency. The Mavericks drafted Dereck Lively II who’s big on defense. Furthermore, the team also acquired Richaun Holmes, standing at 6′ 8.

However, JJ Reddick has his eyes set on Luka Doncic who recently underwent a significant transformation.

Reddick believes Luka has shown an intriguing resiliency in the face of intense criticism. The gifted player has survived constant criticism in the media and NBA Twitter discussion. Despite being accused of being out of shape, not putting enough effort into his defense, and unnecessarily interacting with officials, Luka has continually disproven his critics with an unwavering dedication to his work. And his most recent transformation is what caught Reddick’s eye.

He said, “Look, is Luca ever gonna be 4% body fat and just totally jacked and ripped like Giannis (Antetokounmpo)? No, like he doesn’t have that body type and he never will.”

He believes, however, that there is room for improvement with Luka. He also pointed out that one of the reasons he’s been working like this is because Slovenia is participating in the World Cup.? With this opportunity, Luka can play basketball and also take some time off before starting camp. As a result, he is expected to come into camp in excellent shape. Furthermore, he also just recently got engaged.

Luka Doncic is gearing up for the World Cup

Slovenia will start participating in the World Cup in Japan on August 25. And Doncic will be instrumental in helping his country win. He will compete till September 10 if they reach the finals. Luka will move right into the Dallas Mavericks’ training camp in late September after the international competition. The team will be motivated to make a strong postseason run after last season’s heartbreak of missing the playoffs, and having a top-tier player like Doncic in his peak health would improve their chances.
