As 2023 came to an end, it was about time someone came up with a list of the year’s best players in the NBA and Hoopshype took it upon themselves to share the list. While players like Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jimmy Butler made it to the top five list (in that order), someone else is not happy with the rankings.
A fan took to X to express her disappointment in not seeing the Suns‘ forward Kevin Durant on the top 30 list, while his teammate Devin Booker only made it to the top 27. The fan wrote, “Ridiculous. @DevinBook #27 and no @KDTrey5????” KD himself chimed in on the post.
The Suns are not a super team?

KD, who is also equally unimpressed, replied to the post with a short and sarcastic comment, “#notasuperteam.” This hints at his runs with super teams in the past, including the iconic Warriors super team, as well as with the Nets before he landed in Phoenix by the beginning of 2023.

But it doesn’t end there as this has stirred up yet another back-and-forth in the comment section. Another user went all out on KD’s comment saying, “I really hate this n**** bro lmao. His legacy will not withstand the test of time I promise.” Keeping it short and simple yet again, KD returned the favor, “I hate you too.”

Durant’s super team dream
With one carefully chosen superstar team failing him after another, KD was uncertain about his legacy. When he first came to Phoenix, Chris Paul hadn’t left for the Warriors yet. This meant that on paper at least, the Suns were somehow close to being a super team with KD, Booker, and CP3 in the fold. Adding KD was the final piece in the Suns’ contention for the title. With CP3 out of the picture now, the burden of carrying the team falls on KD and Booker’s shoulders.

The team has been struggling to find a beat this season and the wide array of injuries that has plagued the players does not make it any better. Damion Lee, for instance, has not played a single game while Bradley Beal has made it to only eight games. Booker has played only 23 out of 32 games. This inconsistency in the roster could hurt the team. In this scenario, Durant’s superteam now seems like a distant dream.
