After the post-season ending playoffs, everyone is eyeing the NBA Finals. However, heated exchanges between the players and legends over debates always occur, and this time, it involved Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green. Notably, the provoking statement came from NBA legend Rasheed Wallace while he was facing a question on his podcast ‘Under Dog Sheed.’ The 4x All-Star was asked on his podcast if the 2017 Warriors roster would defeat the 2004 Detroit Pistons roster. Interestingly, the Detroit Pistons grabbed the NBA title in year 2004 against the anticipated winners, the Los Angeles Lakers. Wallace’s team was full of underdogs, yet a powerhouse.
Getting nostalgic about those days, Wallace got a little excited as he replied, “We would’ve beat the sh*t out of [the 2017 Warriors] because for the simple fact that they couldn’t match up with us at any position… Steph [Curry] is not a defender… Draymond [Green] is too little.” However, it was enough to poke the bad boy from the Warriors, Draymond Green, who was also a part of the 2017 roster alongside Kevin Durant. Green replied to Wallace on X as he wrote, “Sheed we would’ve smacked yall. Yall was scoring 72 points per game. That’s not winning a half.”
Sheed we would’ve smacked yall. Yall was scoring 72 points per game. That’s not winning a half. And we putting you and them big ass forces in every pick and roll. Let’s see you move them feet. That one ring was great though big bro. We all appreciated it! https://t.co/vcICDzfibr

Considering what Draymond delivered to Rasheed Wallace, the reply seems apt going through both teams. No wonder the ’04 Pistons were beasts on the defensive end with players like Ben Wallace, Richard “Rip” Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace, Tayshaun Prince, and Chauncey Billups. However, the Warriors cast from 2017 was full of star power who could immediately shut down the Pistons, no matter how adamant Rasheed was about his hypothetical matchup.
Who would emerge victorious in a hypothetical ’04 Pistons vs. ’17 Warriors matchup, even with Draymond Green’s height?
The unfairness of the Golden State Warriors roster from 2017 can be judged by the fact that they only lost 1 match out of 17 postseason games. The Dubs squad had prime Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Zaza Pachulia, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant. A dream basketball team that the NBA fanatics still dream of averaged 115.9 points per game that year. On the contrary, Wallace’s so-claimed Pistons averaged 90.1 points per game in 2004. So, statistically, the 2017 Warriors have the upper hand.

Nevertheless, if we go through the physical aspect, the equations change. Rasheed’s squad did have a large size, but it was not more than the Warriors players. Prince had a 6’9″ stature, while Durant had 6’11” height on the scale. There was no way Tayshaun could get past KD if they ever met on the court with Durant on the defensive side. Similarly, Wallace poked at Green’s height, though his skill was much finer.
On both ends, the ’04 Piston had disadvantages. No wonder why Draymond Green gave a reply in the most brute way. Well, Wallace’s imaginary matchup cannot be achieved.
