The Miami Heat sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings right now with a 10-7 record. However, a string of injuries to their key players could worsen their record even further. Jimmy Butler was unexpectedly ruled out at the last minute during the team’s recent loss to the Brooklyn Nets due to an ankle injury. Even their big man, Bam Adebayo, is sidelined due to a contusion to his left hip.

Furthermore, Dru Smith also suffered a season-ending injury during their matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. R.J. Hampton could miss some time off the court due to a knee injury. To add to their woes, even their key offensive contributor, Tyler Herro, was sidelined due to an ankle injury. Amidst these injury scares Miami might be in for a positive update on the return of point guard Tyler Herro.

Tyler Herro was leading the team in terms of scoring, averaging 22.9 per game. Unfortunately, he endured a Grade 2 ankle sprain during the Miami Heat’s 108-102 win against the Grizzlies in Memphis. The fateful event occurred while Herro attempted a floater and landed on Jaren Jackson Jr.’s foot. He immediately fell to the ground due to the immense pain before limping to the locker room. The Heat then updated that he’ll be missing several weeks and will be using a walking boot for 10 days before re-evaluation. Now, it seems like things are better for the shooting guard.

In a video posted by NBA writer Wes Goldberg, Herro can be seen practicing in the gym, without any braces or wraps covering his ankle. The update suggests that he is nearing a comeback, offering a sigh of relief to all Miami fans.

What happened to Dru Smith?

Smith sustained a third-degree ACL sprain, an injury that could have been easily avoided. During Miami’s recent home win, 129-96, against the Cavaliers, Smith injured his foot after slipping into a 10-inch hole between the court and the spectator sidelines at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. He slipped into the space in between, covered by a piece of paper, while attempting to block a shot from Max Strus.

As a result of the injury, he will undergo surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2023–24 season. It is even more disheartening since he was just starting to make his mark in the league.
