It’s that time of the year when speculations run wild and unbridled. Aside from the watch for Jimmy Butler, there is one player that every contending could incite a battle for. The Brooklyn Nets in their aim to retain a good draft pick are hatching a plan to get rid of their veterans. This includes sharpshooter Cameron Johnson who is in the midst of an amazing campaign for them thus far. And surprisingly, leading the race for him are the Golden State Warriors mere days after they did business with the Nets.

The Bay made the first noteworthy move in the trade market, bringing in Dennis Schroder from the Nets after he averaged 18.4 points with the Nets. Now, according to Bovada, they are also the lead parties to potentially deal for Cam Johnson. In an earlier report from Evan Sidery, the insider reported ten teams making calls for the 28-year-old.

Among the teams are the likes of the Lakers, Mavericks, Nuggets, and even the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. And it’s easy to see wy. Johnson has evolved from just being a primary shooting threat. He is athletic enough to attack the rim and mix up his offense. Furthermore, defensively, he can be a hound and energize a squad that needs his services.

With Schroder gone and Cam Thomas still injured, Johnson has been the frontal contributor for the Nets over the past few games. The former Suns forward has scored at least 18 points in six of his last seven games. Moreover, he is averaging a career-high 19.1 points while shooting 42.3% from three.

NBA Fans react to Cameron Johnson trade news

With Johnson’s braze buzz up and running, the NBA community had a mix of opinions about the same. Starting with the Warriors, some fans wondered what it could take to land a dynamic forward who on paper can fit perfectly into their playstyle. “so is Kuminga gone ??” a fan questioned.

What’s your perspective on:

Will the Warriors' pursuit of Cam Johnson backfire, or is he the missing piece they need?

In recent days, the trade rumors around Kuminga have sparked once again. But not only is the explosive forward showing pleasing signs, but his salary isn’t sufficient to cover for Johnson’s $22.5 million. Hence, if the Warriors are willing to further deplete their depth, then maybe they can make a move as such.

It could even be considered given Johnson’s floor stretching abilities. The Warriors, who play a shooting-centric offense could utilize Johnson’s stellar prowess to further strengthen their perimeter game. But fans don’t see the need for a forward. “GS should be trying to get a starting center. Not a PF/SF,” a fan wrote.

The Bay only has Kevon Looney and Trayce Jackson-Davis as the two centers on their roster. While both are great at grabbing boards and dishing to shooters, they aren’t placed to be directly involved in the offense. The likes of Valanciunas or even Walker Kessler could open the door for a well distributed offense for the Warriors.

And if not them, the Laker Nation is looking at Cameron Johnson with all their might. Currently sitting at 16-13, the Purple and Gold have struggled to shoot the ball from beyond the arc. Add Johnson in the rotation that comprises of LeBron James and Anthony Davis and that could make way for cleaner looks.

“Lakers could use him” a fan wrote. And well they sure could. While the Nets have a worse record, they rank 10th in three point shooting in the NBA. A decisive component to their perimeter success is Cameron Johnson, who averages the most three point attempts on the squad.

However, so far, the Lakers have been mute with a chance to trade. They didn’t alter their roster in the offseason despite a hoard of injuries. Hence, fans are sending a plea to GM Rob Pelinka. “WTH? Everyone who was supposed to come to the Lakers are now landing elsewhere. Can’t pelinka do anything right???” a fan wondered.

For a young forward who can turn games around with his shooting, Johnson is available for a modest price. Furthermore, he still has another two years left on his contract following this season. D’angelo Russell and Jalen Hood-Schifino, two Lakers stars often floated in such talks could be used to make a move for Johnson.
