The Los Angeles Lakers emerged victorious in the first installment of the NBA In-season tournament. LA was undefeated in the group and even the Knockout stages to get to the Finals. While the MVP went to LeBron James, Anthony Davis also significantly contributed to the Lakers’ dub. Philadelphia 76ers’ Paul Reed stirred some controversy in Los Angeles by commenting on Lakers’ Anthony Davis.

When asked about defending Davis, Reed labeled him a “big flopper,” unintentionally using strong words to describe the skilled player. In a recent sitdown, the center disclosed the repercussions of those comments.

During a practice session before a match-up between the Lakers and the Sixers, Reed was asked what it was like guarding Davis. Without the intention of attacking Anthony Davis, he said that AD was a big flopper and that could get him in foul trouble in the game. Hence the “flopper” comment. Many Lakers fans on X (previously Twitter) expressed their anger towards Reed, expressing their displeasure with his comment. The big man addressed the backlash from Lakers supporters on his podcast, “Out Da Mud,” clarifying that he didn’t intend to label Davis as a flopper.“What did I say? I don’t remember saying nothing crazy? I go and check Twitter and it’s hella Lakers fans on my a** gang! I’m talking about ‘I hope your mom dies!”, said Reed.

He further described the attack by Lakers fans,You fu*king suck! You ain’t sh*t. You a backup center!’ And I’m like ‘Damn! Get off this man!’ I play with Joel man! Being in the NBA, everybody knows how to draw fouls. I mean, I shouldn’t have said—I could have worded it differently. I think that would have helped the situation a lot better.” Meanwhile, even comedy star Kevin Hart came after Davis. However, AD silenced all criticism with his dominant performance in the In-season tournament finals.

Before Saturday’s game, actor/comedian Kevin Hart, taking on an analyst role, criticized Davis for not fully unleashing his potential, echoing Celtics legend Kevin Garnett. Hart initially expressed frustration, saying, “AD has immense basketball dominance potential, but the lack of effort to excel frustrates me.”
