Jimmy Butler is the new never-ending saga of the NBA. Not a day without fresh drama and updates from the Miami Heat. The root cause? A public declaration of disinterest to play for the team. As many have pointed out before, Butler wants more money for his services, and the Heat weren’t willing to do so. To the point where they didn’t extend the 35-year-old hoopster’s contract. So, $113 million dreams thrown into the bin, what was Jimmy to do? Unfold the old habits. But these actions are going to cost him heavily and maybe, just maybe, the 6x All-Star forward is ignoring the fact.
After his seven-game suspension, the star was to make a comeback. He did, but faced another suspension for being late for the team flight. And just a few days ago, the franchise informed everyone they were suspending their superstar indefinitely. The Heat no. 22 publicly brought out his grudges and forced a way out of the team. He has left practices and pulled out of games at the last minute. These traits are not new; he has done this with every team he’s ever been on. Thus, throwing him in a negative light once again.
Meanwhile, NBA insider Rachel Nichols has shared some concerning updates about the locker room scenes in Miami. And, let’s just say things are not in favor of Jimmy Butler.

Rachel Nichols gives insights on the Heat locker room with their Jimmy Butler situation
Speaking on the Open Floor podcast, Nichols informed the audience: “I talked to guys in that locker room. They have had it is an understatement.” She continued: “He has disrespected them so much. The way he’s been in and out of ‘oh last minute I’m not playing’, the way he’s been acting toward people in their locker room. I mean staff or other people like that and then the stunt of making them wait hours on the tarmac? To even show up?” It looks like the Miami Heat star (or maybe not at this point), is doing anything and everything in his power to leave the team.
The insider added: “I haven’t spoken to Bam Adebayo about this. So I’m speculating. I want to make this clear. But if you’re Bam Adebayo who’s of this level of a player that he is and some guy on your team who isn’t even contributing right now makes you wait for hours on the tarmac. How do you feel about that?” Adebayo has emerged as the face of the Heat in the last few years. He’s putting in more minutes, playing more games, and most importantly contributing to the team more than Jimmy Butler. It seems unfair to keep the team or their main star waiting for the ‘problem child.’
Besides, Butler currently at $48 million, will receive $52 million if he continues to play for Pat Riley. But the question is, will the 79-year-old boss invest his assets in someone who keeps acting up? “He could cost you $50 million next season to play 50-55 games and maybe not be there for the playoffs. He’s taking the money but he’s gonna be a malcontent there too,” Rachel Nichols stated.
However, this isn’t Butler’s first try at leaving a team midway. During his time at the Minnesota Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns’ presence seemed to have overpowered him and he felt his paycheck was too small for his services. What did he do? Forced his way out of the team to land with the Philadelphia 76ers. And well, history is simply repeating itself, and for once maybe Mat Ishbia could give some things a second thought or more.
Butler might be giving the Phoenix Suns reasons to back out of their $121M offer
The Phoenix Suns need to shake up their roster. Who seems like a good candidate to fulfill their dream? The Texas-born star? There are a few franchises in the NBA that would take some risks that they should take for the team. Or, precisely, for winning the championship. And currently, for Butler, the Suns and the Grizzlies might be those teams willing to risk some things. They want someone to stir the pot and make the dreams turn into reality.

“But if I’m 27 off the teams in the league who at this point? I mean the NBA has progressed in that there are less of those franchises,” Rachel Nichols chipped in. “There are fewer of those franchises that are run by the seat of their pants. 25, 27 teams in the league aren’t like that. I don’t see why you would trade for him, I just don’t. Not at this age, not with the amount of money he’s owed, and not with his potential to blow up your team,” The power forward is 35, and he’ll be 36 this year. He’s efficient on the court but what about the availability issues?
“$400 million in career earnings and to your point, what twice that? Even if it’s just $300 million more in endorsement. If that’s not enough for you, you are willing to tank your reputation, your trade value, and how people see you as a teammate and in the league.” Rachel Nichols further commented that with the ‘stunts’ Bulter has pulled in the last few weeks or months, the league won’t look at him the same way. He’d be a changed person for everyone, including the Suns. And this could jeopardize his desire for a $121 million dream.

Simply put, the scene Jimmy Butler has created around himself and the situation he’s in, nothing’s in his favor. And maybe he is stuck with the Heat for now. Why? Well, it doesn’t look like the Suns are trading Bradley Beal that many were expecting to happen after his benching episode. Butler himself stated that he wanted to make himself available for the Heat. Thus, the clouds of doubts persist and who knows what lies next for the star. The confusion will clear only when he wants to.
