Standford witnessed the rise of Cameron Brink, a 6’4″ defensive phenom who crumbled records along her path to becoming the number 2 pick in the WNBA draft. With a national championship in her resume and generational skills to validate her impact, Magic Johnson’s Sparks were ecstatic when drafting her. Her basketball future was almost known before she unlocked stardom. It’s difficult not to assume a future in the sport when she is the god-sibling of Stephen Curry.
Recently, the reigning Naismith Defensive Player of The Year joined Paul George on his podcast couch. She reminisced on the countless days they competed. Surprisingly, it wasn’t anywhere near the court. Brink recalled their battles on Mario Kart. As far as basketball goes, the Sparks forward’s competitiveness is defeated by her transparency.
“Yeah no, if we shot, I would just give up,” Cameron Brink told George. “I’m competitive, but with him, I’m realistic. He’s gonna whoop my a**,”. She has been the recipient of valuable advice from her god-sibling. Moreover, Stephen Curry cheered for her at every opportunity he could.

That’s why it was surprising when Brink announced her signing with New Balance and not Under Armour. But why would she betray her loving brother? Did she even do anything as such?
Stephen Curry never approached Cameron Brink for a shoe deal
During her last season at Stanford, Cameron Brink would create history outside of the court for the first time. New Balance had officially signed her to their basketball roster. Before her, there was no female basketball player on the athletic brand’s team. She was on cloud nine when signing the deal, admitting to George how New Balance is “so amazing,”.

However, with such a strong connect with Stephen Curry, why didn’t the legendary NBA superstar sign her to his own sneaker roster? Under Armour did approach the transcending female basketball star. There was no additional pitch from Stephen Curry though. “That’s the tea. I don’t know. Well, I love him. He knows it,” the 22-year-old answered when questioned about Curry’s efforts in recruiting her.
But there is a brand beyond Curry’s Under Armour which Brink surprisingly didn’t sign with. That was the big swoosh, Nike. Both her parents worked for the sports giants for almost 20 years. During her basketball career, Brink largely wore Nikes too. Even then, she chose New Balance.

Maybe their offer and visions enticed the newest WNBA sensation. She admitted to fully converting to New Balance during her press conference after the draft. Even though she might not be a part of Stephen Curry’s sneaker roster, their bond runs deeper than business.
As an elder sibling and a basketball veteran, the four-time NBA champion will inevitably provide aid in her basketball journey. It doesn’t matter which brand she represents, Stephen Curry will always be a passionate supporter for Cameron Brink.
