The 2018 draft class will go down as one of the most talented draft classes in NBA history. Players like Trae Young, Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Mikal Bridges and Jaren Jackson Jr. were all drafted in 2018. However, one name stands out, and that name is Luka Doncic. In hindsight, it is very puzzling that four teams passed on the opportunity to have Luka on their roster.

Luka hails from Slovenia and played for Spanish giants Real Madrid before joining the NBA. Growing up in Europe meant that soccer had a huge impact on Luka, and recently Luka paid tribute to his childhood hero, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since the very first time Luka set foot on an NBA court, his generational talent was quite evident. Now in his sixth NBA season, Luka has firmly established himself as one of the premier players of the NBA. Luka’s personality and on-court brilliance have led to multiple brand endorsement deals. In 2019, Luka signed a five-year contract worth $75 million with the Jordan brand. He recently signed a contract extension with the Jordan brand that runs through 2029.

As one of the faces of the Jordan brand, Luka has a signature shoe line with the brand. In his latest release, Luka pays homage to his childhood hero, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Jordan Luka 2 “Field Trip” is an ode to Luka’s time with Real Madrid. The basketball shoes have a price tag of $130 dollars.

Basketball might be popular in North America, but football (soccer) reigns supreme in Europe. The soccer culture in Europe is rich and diverse, with millions of die-hard supporters. Luka’s association with Real Madrid, arguably the greatest football club, is a source of immense pride.

A boy dominating amongst men

Luka Doncic’s tenure with Real Madrid was nothing short of remarkable. The Slovenian sensation joined the Spanish giants in 2015 at the young age of 16, and he swiftly made a substantial impact. During his time in Madrid, Doncic showcased his prodigious basketball skills, leading Real Madrid to numerous triumphs. He played a pivotal role in securing the EuroLeague title in 2018 and was named the EuroLeague MVP and the Final Four MVP.
