Just as Pelicans forward Zion Williamson was getting some motion on the court after a lengthy break, his progress came to an unexpected halt. The team announced he was suspended for a game. This came after Williamson arrived late for Thursday’s team flight to Philadelphia, leading him to miss Friday’s NBA action against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Furthermore, the team’s Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, David Griffin, addressed the situation with his statement clearing the air around the situation. After which Williamson responded by issuing a public apology regarding the same. Williamson wrote, “I’ve worked extremely hard in rehab to get healthy to deliver for this team.” speaking about his hard work to return to the court.

The forward further added, “There is no excuse for being late to team activities. I have apologized to Mrs. Benson, my teammates, and coaches, and I also owe an apology to the fans. I can and will be better as a teammate and member of this organization.” He stated that he takes full responsibility for his actions and that there’s no excuse for being late. However, he took a sigh of relief after New Orleans defeated Philadelphia 123-115 despite his absence. Williamson will return to action on Monday as the Pelicans travel to TD Garden to face the Boston Celtics.
