The NBA Bubble was a unique approach by NBA to resume the 2019-2020 season amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It was set up at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to isolate members from the outside world. Players, coaches, and other staff were supposed live in the complex throughout the season. The setup featured shortened schedule and the first-ever play in the tournament. Even though there were no fans on the premise, the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James put on a show for fans all around the globe. 

Episode 8 of A King’s Reign on Apple Podcasts featured the crew discussing the NBA’s bubble year and the adjustments and struggles that accompanied it. The podcast showcases a rotating lineup of the best insiders, writers, and reporters from The Athletic.

LeBron James was in his entrepreneurial zone even in the Bubble

Journalists Joe Vardon and Sam Amick sat down to talk about the “3-month long science project,” aka the Bubble, in their episode. Being the select few that witnessed the tenure first-hand, they shared several wild, emotional, and dramatic moments from the time. 

In a brief story, the duo discussed how writers, journalists, and multiple front-office executives were in an odd party situation. It started when uncertainty got the best of Sam Amick, Tim Conley (front office exec), and Mike Zarren (second-in-command for Boston Celtics). “The three of us were going to breach the rules and sit on our own front porches and not share a glass of wine or share a bottle of wine but have our own. And be essentially 15-20 feet apart from one another.”

The trio had over 20 bottles of wine and were filled with questions regarding the league’s upcoming days. To their surprise, they saw James riding on his bike and stopping for a second. To this, Sam said, “Hey. LeBron! Come on over”, to which James replied, “What do you have.” Amick emphasizes how they had more wine than they could have. And upon hearing they only had wine, he jokingly responded, “Nah, man. I’m just drinking tequila tonight,” before pedaling his bike back into the lobby of his hotel room.

In the decorated list of James’ business resume, he also has a Tequila company. King James invested in Lobos Tequila 1707 upon its launch in 2020. Despite being on the market for less than three years, it has achieved a lot of success.

LeBron James launched limited edition tequila with just 9000 bottles

LeBron celebrated his feat of all-time scoring record by toasting a bottle of Lobos 1707 Tequila Extra Añejo. The league’s leader enjoyed the drink during a star-studded party. His award-winning tequila brand offers four different products, with prices ranging from $49 to $159. The tequila James celebrated his scoring milestone with was the brand’s most expensive, costing $159 per bottle.

However, he has recently launched an exclusive limited edition variation of his famous tequila. Giving it a unique and exclusive appeal, the label has only 9,000 bottles of Lobos 1707 Añejo for sale in select markets.

Despite its limited availability, the new drink comes at a reasonable price of $99 for a limited-edition product. LeBron James‘ tequila brand has gained popularity over the years and earned several awards. Despite that, its prices have remained relatively stable.
