The NBA’s first In-Season Tournament reached its climax on the final night of group play; with 16 teams vying against each other. However, only a select few teams harbored hopes of advancing. The Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings were two of those teams. In their head-to-head clash, victory alone wasn’t the sole objective; both teams had to defy the unfavorable tournament odds stacked against them.
The anticipation was palpable since the first moment. For the fans, it was what they exactly wanted, especially because the two teams have a history of delivering riveting matchups; be it in the regular season or the playoffs.

Stephen Curry is thrilled by Gary Payton II’s plays
In 17 minutes of action, Gary Payton II contributed 7 points and 5 rebounds. However, Payton’s impact transcended way beyond just mere statistics. Radiating a similar sentiment, an instance occurred as Stephen Curry was mic’d for the action; and couldn’t contain his excitement in response to Payton’s remarkable plays.

With the Warriors setting their sights on the larger picture, Gary Payton is one of the key forces in their determined push. After all, the defensive menace is always there to do the nitty-gritty work for them.
As for the In-Season Tournament, the Warriors faced the challenge of securing a victory by a margin of at least 12 points. On the other hand, the Kings found themselves in a more favorable position; needing to win or to lose by a margin not exceeding 11 points. The latter came out on top edging past the Warriors by just a single point.

Gary Payton II goes down to injury
Gary Payton returned against the San Antonio Spurs after sitting out three games with a left foot sprain. However, the joy in his comeback was short-lived, as he was sidelined during the game against the Kings.
With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, GP3 was visibly limping and hopping on the court. Notably, there was no apparent contact during his recent plays. After the game stopped, he was assisted back to the locker room.

Later, Payton was officially ruled out of the game. The issue cited for his rest is his right calf. However, anything substantial can be confirmed only after proper medical checkups. Till then, the event casts a shadow over his overall return to action.
