There are players in the NBA who can end up dominating despite the best efforts of the defenders. Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant are some examples. In the new era, Stephen Curry is one example who’s unstoppable on most nights. How do you stop someone who can pull up from 40 feet casually?

It doesn’t matter if it’s playoffs, regular season, or preseason, Stephen Curry will do a number on you anywhere.
Jeff Teague, the former Hawks All-Star sat down with Club 520 Podcast alongside Gary Harris, and answered “Who was the toughest player for you to guard?”. The former NBA Guard named Curry as his choice and related a harrowing experience he had. It came during his then-team’s Minnesota Timberwolves preseason fixture in China against the Warriors in 2017.
He reveals, “We went to China, we played KD, Steph, and I swear to God. I played the best defense, the hardest defense I ever played in my life. I wasn’t tryna not get embarrassed. There were a hundred thousand people in the stands. So I am like f*** that, he ain’t about to kill me. I swear to God, I played so hard, I never played so hard. Thibs came after the game and said that was the best defense I played. Steph Curry had 40 points. He hit every shot, bro.”
Revealing his anguish, he continued, “I contested every shot, I contested every one bro. At one point, he started doing that shit(referring to his shimmy celebration) because in China. I said I got something. Stop that h** a** shit.”
Clearly, Teague tried everything in his power to stop the amazing scorer. To have a defensive-minded veteran coach like Tom Thibodeau giving props for defense is an indication of that.

In recent times, he’s avoiding tours to China because of USA’s political conflict with them. But his popularity there is off-the-charts. Only native Jeremy Lin has more followers on China’s social media than him. His squad, the Warriors, is the most popular squad there. Therefore, 100,000 people for a preseason game is barely a surprise.
The Superstar has repeatedly praised young talent in China. He gave props to a then 8-years old player Song Yihong on China’s social media platform Weibo. He has also given shout-outs to other players from the nation, including a then 13-year-old one-armed player Zhang Jiacheng in 2020.
