Is this young prodigy's trash talk the spark the NBA needs for more excitement?

Aaliyah Chaves, the hotshot high school prodigy, had an incredible game at the Mamba Invitational League. While her skills are already well known, the young lady took it to another level with her scoring, shooting prowess, and even some trash talking. She was not just balling but also talking smack, and her performance has even impressed Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell.

The Utah man even tweeted a video of her playing, saying,” Trynna figure out who she talkin about lol and when do they play each other,” In the video, Chaves is seen saying,“I am in your town and you are not lacing it up. You don’t want that smoke. You know who you are, you know what I am talking about too.” and this is what left Donovan Mitchell curious about whom she was addressing.

It seems that Aaliyah Chaves was trash-talking in general, rather than targeting a specific opponent, during the Mamba Invitational League game. “But also like, if you do that, I’m sorry, but I’m gonna shut you up. … Like when I hear someone talking trash, it just turns, like something turns on my brain.” Chaves said.

In addition to this, Aaliyah Chavez is killing it on the court with mad skills. She’s a finalist for the Naismith Girls Basketball National Player of the Year Award, and she’s been putting up some wild numbers—over 37 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game. ESPN’s espnW has her ranked as the top recruit in the Class of 2025, so she’s definitely a name to watch in the coming years.

What does the future hold for Aaliyah Chavez?

Being the number 1 prospect in the Class of 2025, the 5’10 point guard from Texas has a number of schools in mind. However, Chavez mentioned that she will take her time with the decision-making process, as this is a crucial choice for her future.

Even though the University of Texas might have an edge due to its location, the Texas Tech Red Raiders, being from Chavez’s hometown, could be a strong contender for her, despite not having made the NCAA Tournament since 2013. It’ll be quite the battle for Chavez, with a lot of colleges competing to recruit her in the coming months. Schools will be fighting hard to secure her commitment, making the recruitment process extremely intense and competitive.

With Chavez already catching the eye of NBA players with her game, it’s clear she’s bound to excel no matter where she ends up. Her current skills on both ends of the court suggest she’s set for a bright future. What are your thoughts on the rising prodigy?
