The rise of a sport in the global games market requires the backing of popular celebrities. Kevin Durant seemed to have understood the dynamic as he recently backed a sport making great inroads in America. But the 34-year-old NBA star’s endorsement raised many eyebrows because of the controversial side attached to the sport.

Several people have accused the controversial sport of ‘killing’ the popular game of tennis for certain reasons. Thus, an NBA superstar supporting it just 16 days after the tennis star Coco Gauff made the USA proud received mixed reactions.

A year back, the 2-time NBA champion became a part owner of the pickleball team, Brooklyn Aces. The New York City-based side participates in the Major League Pickleball as the game continues to gain interest. Recently, Durant showed support for a play from his team that made it into SportsCenter’s top 10.

An around-the-post shot from Hayden Patriquin of the Aces against the Miami Pickleball Club made it to the selected list. Kevin displayed his admiration for the moment with his Instagram story. With the caption, “We here!”?KD celebrated his love for his team and the sport.

This moment marked a significant part in the growth of pickleball after its public criticism. Accused of ‘killing’ tennis on several occasions, the sport had to evolve rapidly in the past few years. So, the support from Durant surprised a few, especially when just slightly more than two weeks ago Coco made the nation proud. After winning the US Open on home soil at the age of just 19, Gauff instilled faith in the tennis followers around the country.

Thus, the Phoenix Suns forward’s recent endeavors might not go down well amongst tennis lovers across the USA. But it’s not just Kevin anymore, the setup of the entire sport is getting eyeballs. Some from the NBA, and some from other sports as well.

Already establishing itself as one of the fastest-growing games in the nation, the appeal of the sport has attracted numerous big names. So, Durant’s hype for the game was clearly justified. He put his money and faith before several others, understanding the upside of the investment. His faith backed his shrewdness as others are now following the same path.
