The Minnesota Timberwolves have fallen off badly this season. Their unqualified success last season left fans with lofty expectations for this one. However, they were disappointed as the T-Wolves currently sit 8th in the Western Conference with a 5-5 record in their last 10 matchups. And one man who shares the fans’ frustration is Anthony Edwards. This isn’t a good omen given the trade rumors around the $244 million star, but we’ll get to that in a bit.

Ever since Karl Anthony Towns’ departure, Edwards has struggled at Minnesota. And his frustration seems to be growing daily. Amidst the rising discontent, head coach Chris Finch issued a public challenge to his star player ahead of their game against the Pelicans. This came after ‘Ant-Man’ dropped 37 points against the Clippers—a performance Finch labeled as a “masterclass”

One of the things that we challenged him with is, he should be flirting with more triple-doubles, and last night he did that. And he did it within the flow of the game,” the T-Wolves HC said.

Finch’s challenge clearly paid off in motivating the struggling guard to perform at his usual best. This is significant, especially after Edwards expressed his disappointment with the players around him.

With ‘ANT’ unimpressed by what he sees in the Wolves’ locker room, fans fear the worst. Meaning: Anthony Edwards requests a trade away from Minnesota, and a rival swoops in to sign him.

But if you’re wondering why that’s such a pressing concern for Wolves fans, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

San Antonio Spurs could shock the world in their pursuit of Anthony Edwards

As Edwards’ patience runs thin, we could be on the cusp of a blockbuster trade. The San Antonio Spurs seem to be eyeing the $244 million superstar. As they look to create the next big NBA duo by pairing Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs need to weigh their options carefully.

The Spurs have retained all of their first-round Draft picks and also have some from other teams alongside swap rights for a few. Moreover, they also have Stephon Castle as a viable trading option in addition to their collection of Draft picks. They could easily leverage this in a potential trade with Minnesota.

Though Minnesota and their fans are not ready to part with the ‘Ant-Man,’ this could be a golden opportunity for them to hit the reset button on their squad. Receiving Stephon Bridges and 10 potential first-round picks may be lucrative enough for the Wolves to part ways with their mercurial forward. The Spurs could also include Zach Collins and Harrison Barnes in this trade, given their contracts are running out soon.

These rumors are oddly reminiscent of the whole Kevin Durant trade saga. You’ll remember that the Suns gave up a lot. It was a mega 4-team trade to acquire KD’s services.

So, such a deal between the Spurs and the T-Wolves might be within the realm of possibility!
