The WNBA is heating up as the regular season is nearing an end and the playoffs are knocking on the door. At this stage of the season, each loss is a major blow to the defeated teams. Dallas Wings had to go through a streak of losses recently, in the midst of an unfortunate injury to their star, Satou Sabally.

These defeats come across as moral breakers at this point of the season. With Sabally sidelined, things are not looking good for the Wings.

In the away match against the Minnesota Lynx, she accidentally hurt herself while shooting a long ranger. Upon the landing, she stepped on the foot of Bridget Carleton and rolled her ankle. She immediately fell down on the court and initially struggled to get up on her feet.

To add to her misery, the home crowd started using their antics to bring down her confidence. Eventually, the two-time All-Star replied while playing through the injury and silencing the doubters. The spat took an ugly turn with time, resulting in fan ejections.

Despite her best efforts, the Wings could not hold their fort and lost by five points. In the return fixture at home, the 25-year-old had to sit out due to the injury. The Lynx came out on top again with a dominant display and a statement win with a scoreline of 90-81.

These consecutive losses mark a significant time for the Dallas Wings. They visibly struggled without Sabally on the court. This now raises an important question.

Thankfully for the Wings, Sabally’s injury is not an extremely serious one. That’s why she could play through it in the away fixture and still dropped 22-7-7. The small forward is an integral part of Dallas’ operations, so having her back on the court should be the priority.

As for the team, there are still six games of the regular season left. With an 18-16 record, they are currently second in the Western Conference and fourth overall in the WNBA. This losing streak hampered their momentum, but it was not the first time.

The Wings have bounced back from adversities time and again. Even earlier this month, they went through a three-game losing streak before winning the following three consecutive matches. Consistency in winning is the only thing this team lacks at the moment. If they find their feet toward the closing of the season, they have all the elements to surprise the WNBA.
