Draymond Green took a hit amidst the Caitlin Clark controversy in the WNBA world. The rookie sensation and her struggles with supposedly intentional physicality became a talking point in the last few weeks. And it blew up after Chicago Sky’s Chennedy Carter shoved down Clark questionably. While many came in support of the ex-Iowa Hawks player, a few felt it was good for the business, especially the rising star’s arch-rival Angel Reese, who admitted her acceptance of being the “bad guy”.

Reese, who was also a teammate of Carter, made a revelation with her statement on the controversy. The 22-year-old outrightly batted for Chennedy’s ugly on-court antics, and said, “I’ll take the ‘bad guy’ role and I’ll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates.” In response to Reese’s statement, Colin Cowherd, a popular sports analyst, latched on to it, appreciating the baller. He dragged GSW’s Draymond into the picture, saying, “She’s willing to play the villain. There are no great movies without conflict”.

“The more conflict, the more villains the better the script… She’s gonna be the villain, she’s gonna be the Draymond Green,” the analyst said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. Moreover, he didn’t stop at that. He went on to critique the media. Cowherd added, “I love the fact as (the WNBA) explodes, and nobody in the media quite knows how to handle it, mostly guys … they’re not fragile. We are.”

Notably, Draymond Green has also played his part in the controversy. After Chennedy Carter’s ugly antic went viral on social media, the Warrior chimed in to make an opinion. The 4x NBA Champion didn’t blame the Sky player for the aggression, yet he sided with Clark. He took the comments on the post that shared the video of the hard foul and urged the Indiana Fever to rope in an “enforcer”.

Has Reese taken Cowherd’s words seriously and turned into Draymond Green?

The power forward has built a reputation for his aggressive nature on the court. He has also paid heavy praise for the same. Especially in the recently concluded regular season, he faced two suspensions and multiple ejections. Notably, on one occasion, the league suspended him indefinitely for taking an ugly swing at Jusuf Nurkic. Green has indeed taken ownership of the label ‘Bad Boy of the NBA’ through his actions.

Moreover, when Colin Cowherd assigned that title to Angel Reese following her statement, the rising star seemed to have taken it seriously! Tonight, in the game between the Sky and New York Liberty, Reese was ejected from the game with a double technical foul. She played 24 minutes and dropped 13 points with 10 rebounds.

Unfortunately, Sky couldn’t cross the line, as they succumbed to a 75-88 loss. Liberty’s forward Breanna Stewart scored 33 points with 14 rebounds to shut down the Chicago side. Perhaps, Reese’s “bad guy” approach to the game has backfired this time. With a lot to happen in the season, we might get to watch more antics from Reese as she attempts to take up the unique title in the WNBA.

Will Angel Reese’s approach serve good for the Sky? Let us know in the comments.
