Klay Thompson frames the thrilling finish! The newest member of the Mavs has been on the run throughout the off-season. Following his presence at the US Open, China Klay has found himself at the right place at the right time. The regular season clash between the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces went down the wire. And, the 4x NBA Champ’s ‘Bahamian sister’ came out on top, sealing the game for the NY side. Wondering what happened? Here’s how the final 22 seconds panned out.
The Liberty took a 2-point lead, thanks to Sabrina Ionescu’s clutch free throw. However, it wasn’t enough as the Aces had enough time to re-take the lead. The NY side held its nerve as Breanna Stewart produced a game-winning block to shut down Jackie Young. With only 2 seconds remaining, the Liberty’s center Jonquel Jones dropped 2 clutch free throws to seal the deal. The team’s grit enabled a 75-71 finish with 3 clutch plays. Klay Thompson, who was witnessing the action unfold, was impressed by Jones’ FTs at the end.
The Splash Brother shared the video of the play on his Instagram story, writing, “Ice in her veins,” tagging the WNBA hooper’s handle. Following the game, Klay took a picture alongside the Liberty Center and also shared it. This time, he wrote, “242 (Bahamas flag) to da world My Bahamian sis.” One may wonder the reason behind the star shooter’s love for the Bahamas. It’s nothing but Klay’s roots travel back to The Family Islands, as his father, Mychal Thompson was born and brought up there.

With this victory, the Liberty continue to assert their dominance with a 29-6 record, making a strong case for the post-season. On the other hand, the Aces tried to best to pull off a blinder in the absence of their MVP player, A’ja Wilson. With the postseason around the corner, the Aces need to pull their socks up for the championship run.
Why wasn’t A’ja Wilson playing the game that Klay Thompson was in attendance for?
What happened to A’ja Wilson? Why is she not playing? That’s the question that popped into everyone’s head when they switched on their TV sets to watch the game. The 2x WNBA MVP has had an impressive season, averaging 27.3 points, alongside just under 12 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Notably, she is on the road to claim her third MVP award. Ahead of this game, the team ruled her out, stating an ankle injury. It seemed more of a precautionary move amid the Aces’ race to finish the regular on a high note.
To be honest, the Aces did a pretty good job without their MVP. Speaking of the loss, the team’s star guard Kelsey Plum considered that the team had made a statement with their efforts in the absence of Wilson, as per ESPN. The most surprising factor of all was no one expected Wilson to miss a game. She is one of the most durable players in the WNBA. The last time she missed a game was in 2019. After appearing in 172 games in a row, the team had to slow her down and save the best for the last.
