With the new class of rookies doing wonders in the WNBA, the basketball community has been showing a lot of love to the women’s league. Not only the fans, but even many NBA stars are in awe of these young women’s talent. One of the biggest Cameron Brink fans right now is Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, who has been rather public about his admiration of the LA Sparks rookie. So, when Brink suffered a tragic season-ending injury during yesterday’s Sparks vs. Sun game, Butler, in his own way supported her in this tough time.
Continuing with the trend that Jimmy started a couple of weeks ago during a Sparks game, he was seen wearing a Cameron Brink jersey in the latest bunch of his Instagram stories. In the videos, he was playing cards with his friends and giving out ‘Words of Wisdom’ to his followers, all while repping the Sparks #22 shirt. “You say you gonna do something, just do it,” Butler said, likely as a motivational message to Brink amid her injury woes. It was during yesterday’s game that the rookie tore the ACL in her left knee after getting bumped during a drive to the basket.
Shaken up by the blow, she hobbled off the floor before eventually being carried to the locker room. With an injury as serious as an ACL tear, her rookie season has come to an end in just fifteen games, with her averaging 7.5 points along with over 5 boards and 2 blocks. Moreover, her dream of representing Team USA in the upcoming Paris Olympics for the 3X3 tournament will also be left unfulfilled. “You never think it will happen to you. And despite all the hard work sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger… It’s not goodbye basketball it’s just a see you later,” Brink emotionally wrote on social media.

Jimmy Butler and Cameron Brink share mutual fandom
While Jimmy left the internet buzzing once again by wearing Brink’s jersey, this is not the first time the Heat star has done it. During a recent Sparks vs. Wings game, he graced LA’s Crypto.com arena wearing the same jersey to support the rook. “You are going to change the game for the better. I know it.” Butler said in his message to Brink that night. And the two stars even met after the game as Brink was left overwhelmed by his gesture to support her. “That looks good on ya,” she told Butler after they shared a wholesome hug.
Maybe Butler loves wearing Brink’s jersey because she has the same number that he has in Miami. Or maybe it’s because Brink also is a huge fan of the six-time All-Star. In a recent interview, while playing a game where Brink had to choose between multiple players, she revealed what a big fan she was of Jimmy Buckets. “I love Jimmy.” Then, she would go on to pick him over several stars like Wembanyama, Tatum, SGA, and Dame.

With one being a superstar in his team and the other the future of her franchise, it is understandable why the two admire each other’s talent. And hopefully, Brink can come out of her ACL injury stronger and continue to build her WNBA legacy.
