Angel Reese and Sky showering Azurie with love—Is this the kind of support we need in sports?

In what was the 19th double-double of her rookie season, Angel Reese finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds in Chicago Sky’s 90-86 win over the LA Sparks. And who else was sitting courtside paying special attention, but the Mavericks superstar, Kyrie Irving! Along for the ride was his daughter, Azurie. And it seems like Kai ensured his daughter had a special experience. Waiting for the women in the tunnel, Irving’s daughter was witness to a proud moment.

The ‘Bayou Barbie’ was out of the tunnel first, as she ran to Azurie and hugged her, before embracing and thanking the 32-year-old for his congratulatory wishes. Following her were the rest of Reese’s teammates, as they each made sure to say hi to the little girl by her father’s side. But perhaps, the greatest moment for little Azurie was when No. 15, Lindsay Allen, dapped Kyrie and said, “Big fan, big fan of you.”

The wholesome moment was tweeted by YahooSports, with the caption, “Kyrie Irving linking up with the Sky after they beat the Sparks in LA,” tagging Angel Reese at the end. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Kai has said something about the WNBA young gun. The hoops duo shared the mic at the 2023 ESPYS before she was drafted as a pro, during which the Maverick introduced Reese by saying, “It’s an honor for me to stand here with the beautiful Angel Reese, a powerhouse in our sport.”

Reese has been shooting down all the naysayers with her brilliant performances in her rookie season. Her double-double record in itself is stunning, with the 22-year-old dropping 15 straight double-doubles in July! With the way LSU alum is eating them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it’s natural that we wonder if Angel is going to surpass the single-season record of 28 double-doubles set by Alyssa Thomas last year. Not that it’d be surprising.

But it seems like Kyrie Irving wasn’t the only star guard in attendance.

Besides Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul was also at hand to watch the Sky vs Sparks battle

Have an interesting take?

Sitting courtside was none other than the San Antonio Spurs’ very own ‘Point God,’ Chris Paul. While Kyrie Irving made it to the tunnel, it looks like CP3 decided to take some time to chat with the Sparks’ Rickea Jackson, post-game.

The Chicago Sky vs Los Angeles Sparks was definitely an exciting game to watch. Especially considering how close the former came to losing. Angel Reese and the Sky entered the fourth quarter down 10 points. After an intense back-and-forth, Chicago managed to overpower LA at their home court, meaning they won the regular season series against Sparks after their win against the same opponents in May.

Reese’s contributions to the matchup were much needed. Her defensive efforts really shone through as 3x All-Star Dearica Hamby was held to the lowest point total of her season at 7. The 2023 NCAA champion, en route to her double-double, pulled down 6 defensive rebounds on Hamby. She also went 4-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the foul line along with an assist and a block as the Sky bounced back from a tumultuous loss to Mercury previously.

So, there you go.

What did you think of the wholesome moment between Kyrie Irving and the Sky? Do you believe Angel Reese might just become the ROTY with these kinds of performances? Let us know in the comments.
