Shooter Curry had to face his headlined defeat on the course last summer when Patrick Mahomes humbled the Baby-Faced Assassin in his beloved game of golf. Many months and moments later, as Steph’s fans are cooling their heels for the All-Star sideline event, they’re likening his new nemesis to his golf rival.
As one of the best NBA shooters, Stephen Curry held the record for the highest points made in a 3-point contest until WNBA’s sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu came and obliterated the record in 2023. A year later, fans will finally see the two sharpshooters go up against each other in a 3-point contest during the All-Star weekend. But ahead of this match-up, Nets‘ star Mikal Bridges likens Sabrina to the NFL’s superstar Patrick Mahomes in the latest episode of the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast.
Sabrina can shoot from anywhere

While crediting Sabrina for her skills, Mikal compares her to the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “It’s like Patrick Mahomes, man,” he says, acknowledging his ability to throw the ball from anywhere on the field while playing football. Playing on this, he draws a comparison between Sabrina and Mahomes, because the WNBA had recently come out on X and claimed she would shoot from the NBA 3-point line during the contest.
So, Mikal is confident that Sabrina can pull off long shots on the floor with ease, much like Mahomes who is known for taking strong shots from anywhere. To provide context, the 3-point line in the NBA is 23 feet, 9 inches long at the top of the arc, and closes in on 22 feet in the corners from the basket. The WNBA’s line is closer to the rim, starting at 22 feet, 1.75 inches, and tapering down to 22 feet at the corners. Considering this, Sabrina could’ve gotten an edge over Steph, but she decided to shoot from the NBA’s line.

But Sabrina doesn’t stand a chance?
Despite the praises, the host of the show and 10X NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony thinks Sabrina doesn’t stand a chance against the NBA’s best shooter. While Melo credits Sabrina for her incredible shooting skills, he claims that winning a shooting contest against Steph is impossible. “Speaking honestly, she ain’t gonna beat Steph. Steph is the greatest shooter of all time,” he says.

Regardless, Melo acknowledges the initiative to bring the NBA and the WNBA together. “I love it for the business of basketball,” he says, especially for the cause of women’s sports, which will bring the spotlight to the WNBA. As Steph and Sabrina gear up for the match, who are you rooting for? Is Melo wrong in assuming that Sabrina cannot win over Steph?
