The Wizards’ trust in Jordan Poole fades away. The Washington side decided to bench their guard after months of struggle. Poole played a crucial role with the Golden State Warriors to win the 2022 season championship. However, in the following year, he put up a sloppy effort on the court, which forced the Dubs to trade him out.

And the Wizards roped in the rising star for a four-year contract worth $128 million. Months into the trade, Poole didn’t seem to have impressed the Wizards management. The ex-Warriors’ average dipped from 20 points to 15 points in the season. Moreover, ESPN’s Bobby Marks said that many teams consider Poole’s contract as “one of the worst deals in the NBA right now.”

Hours after Marks made that statement, the Wizards are set to bench the 24-year-old for tonight’s game against the Denver Nuggets.

The Washington Wizards have one of the worst records in this season, struggling alongside Detroit Pistons and San Antonio Spurs. The Pistons are one win away from pushing down the Wizards to the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

One of the major criticisms that surrounded the team was the lack of defense. The team heavily relied on their offense and always tried to out-win their opponents with it. Unfortunately, it didn’t help the team in the long run, as the opponents easily counter-attacked on the other end.

On the other hand, the team roped in Jordan Poole with a lot of trust to play the second fiddle for Kyle Kuzma this season. Especially after the team lost Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis in the 2023 off-season. Let’s take a look at Poole’s fall from being an NBA champion to one of the worst contracts in the league.

Jordan Poole – one of the worst contracts in the NBA

Poole Party was definitely considered the future of the Warriors. He maintained a special bond with Stephen Curry and also shot a lot of three-pointers just like him. He also cemented a spot after the 2022 Finals performance against the Celtics.

Things got out of hand in the last season when Draymond Green swung his arm at the youngster. It eventually troubled the rising star’s run on the court. The dip in performance forced the Dubs to trade him out in the off-season and also roped in Chris Paul as part of the trade.
