Just when Luka Doncic thought his week couldn’t get any worse, news on Saturday morning proved otherwise. After picking up a calf injury on Christmas Day against the Timberwolves, the Slovenian is set to miss at least a month of action. To turn that physical setback into a mental one, he has now entered the same list as NFL stars, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

According to Marc Stein, the Mavs star’s Dallas home was burglarized on Friday. “No one was home at the time and thankfully Luka and his family are safe,” his business manager Lara Beth Seager said. “Luka has filed a police report and an investigation is ongoing.”

The league alerted players last month warning them about potential security threats. When Timberwolves’ Mike Conley was away watching a Vikings game, his home was burglarized on September 15. The same thing happened to Bucks’ Bobby Portis Jr. Early last month (Nov. 2), while Bobby was on a road trip with the Milwaukee squad to face the Cavaliers, a similar break-in occurred at his home. The 29-year-old forward even announced a reward for anyone who provides information about the burglary.

Mahomes, who signed a 10-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs worth $450 million, according to Spotrac, and Kelce, who signed a $34 million contract with the same franchise, both faced similar burglary incidents in November. Their homes were broken into just days apart, which prompted the NFL to take immediate action and alarm the others.

According to reports from The Associated Press, the NBA memo included information from the FBI, which suggested that the burglaries were linked to “transnational South American Theft Groups.” Digging deeper into the information revealed more about these groups. Reportedly, they are “well-organized, sophisticated rings that incorporate advanced techniques and technologies, including pre-surveillance, drones, and signal jamming devices.” As per the memo, the burglars primarily focus on stealing cash and valuable items that can be sold on the black market.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, “All-NBA guard Luka Doncic will be reevaluated in one month after sustaining a left calf strain.” Along with the MRI, multiple opinions were sought regarding the injury to ensure complete certainty about the issue.

Doncic has long struggled with issues related to his calf, but this time, the Mavericks cannot afford to take any risks with their 5-time All-Star. He will be on complete rest for a month before undergoing a reevaluation, with further details expected to emerge after that.
