Will Jeff Bezos' billions bring a new era of dominance for the Boston Celtics?

Astonishing news around the Boston Celtics has surfaced since the Grousbeck family announced its intentions to sell the team. The timing, coming after a record 18th title brought the onset of major curiosity. Initially, family planning was proposed as the reason. Later, reports suggested a possible feud between son and father due to the Shamrocks’ inflating payroll and future tax payments. So far though, the family had stayed quiet. Until now, Wyc Grousbeck unveiled several details about the process.

It’s been three months since the sale has been announced. In that span, several big names have allegedly set their eyes on the sale. But as far as the process goes, it’s only “about to hit full speed”. So far, the advisors have been busy charting out the financials and preparing offer booklets. Notably, the sale of the renowned franchise is bound to be the most lucrative deal in NBA history reportedly fetching a fee of $6 billion.

Yet, the process isn’t easy. As a fan who propelled the Celtics to their long-awaited destination, Grousbeck wants to ensure their successor is someone who equally cherishes the franchise. The family takes it as a “responsibility” to find the rightful buyer for the team. In his interview with Adam Himmelsbach, Grousbeck also addressed the reported disputes he had with his father, Irving Grousbeck.

The effects of it won’t be felt this season in a time when the Grousbeck family remains in full control. However, from next season, the new owners will have to shoulder the responsibility of paying over $500 million to keep the group intact, more than half of which stems from luxury tax payments.

Wyc Grousbeck didn’t admit or deny any rifts. Rather, he decided to withhold the details while stressing that their family remains “unified” and the decision to sell came from a collective discussion he told the Boston Globe.
