LeBron's heartfelt post—Is it a sign of deeper fears among NBA stars post-election?

The dust has finally settled, and Donald Trump came out on top once again. With the pivotal voting day behind us, reactions are pouring in as the Republican Party candidate has the last laugh after an election campaign that had over $10bn spent combined. LeBron James and a majority of the NBA fraternity are now left in a spot of bother with thoughts of the future clouding them. No, not about their playing career but they are certainly concerned about their families, with LeBron’s post making that clear as daylight.

With a heavy heart, LeBron posted a picture of Zhuri in his arms and captioned it, “HEAVY ON MY HEART & MIND THIS AM MY PRINCESS 👸🏾!! PROMISE TO PROTECT YOU WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE AND MORE!! WE DONT NEED THEIR HELP!” followed by a series of brown hearts. After all, he was highly enthusiastic a few days ago while endorsing Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris. So the final results sort of affected the Lakers star.

Addressing his millions of followers on X, LeBron asked, “What are we even talking about here??” Clarifying his choice, the 4-time champion added, “When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS.” LeBron was not the only star who rooted for Harris. Pop stars Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, along with actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, were also among the prominent figures backing the Democratic candidate.

However, this is not the first time LeBron has supported Trump’s opponent. In the past two elections, LBJ backed Joe Biden in 2020, according to Cleveland.com, and Hillary Clinton in 2016, as reported by CNN.

LeBron wasn’t the only face of the NBA who opposed Trump. Stephen Curry remained a vocal advocate for Kamala. Warriors HC Steve Kerr even took a page out of Curry‘s book and said, “After the votes are tallied (on Nov. 5), in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can tell Donald Trump … night night!” at the Democratic National Convention. The dislike for Trump is still strong among the three that date back from an incident in 2018.

Have an interesting take?

The 2018 Championship Finals was between LeBron’s Cavaliers and Curry’s Warriors. As is tradition, the winning team was expected to visit the White House. However, before that could happen, President Trump made it clear that none of them were invited. “I didn’t invite LeBron James, and I didn’t invite Steph Curry,” he told reporters. “We’re not going to invite either team.”

And that’s why the eventual winners Dubs were not asked to visit the President’s residence following their championship win. Not only the NBA champions but Trump’s doors were closed for the Super Bowl winners, the Philadelphia Eagles, as well. But Curry and Co. ultimately got their invitation in 2022 following the championship win, during the Biden presidency.

So, with Trump back in power, we can safely assume that LeBron James’ Lakers and the Warriors are off the invitees list even if they went on to win the championship this season.
