It’s that time of year again — the Christmas Day NBA action, where the Golden State Warriors will be taking on the Los Angeles Lakers. Tonight’s game promises an intense showdown as the Warriors rank at seventh and the Lakers at eighth in the Western Conference. But before we get into the game, let’s get to know if Stephen Curry and Draymond Green would make it to the game tonight.

First things first, let’s talk about injuries. For the Warriors, the concern is relatively light as Gary Payton II is questionable with a calf issue. Other than that, the team is in a good shape and includes their star player Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. However, the Lakers are dealing with a complicated injury situation. Anthony Davis, LeBron James and D’Angelo Russell are listed as day-to-day and their status is questionable. On top of that, Jaxson Hayes and Jalen Hood-Schifino are sidelined due to ankle and hamstring injuries.

The road ahead for both teams

Both teams come into this game with disappointing losses. The Warriors fell to the Pacers, and continues a tough stretch where they only won in three of the last 10 games. The Lakers, too, are coming off a frustrating loss to the Detroit Pistons, failing consecutive wins. And this matchup provides an opportunity for playoff positioning. The Warriors are currently at 15-13 record on the season and the Lakers are just slightly ahead at 16-12.

For the Lakers, LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ health will be pivotal in determining their fortunes. If the Lakers’ injured stars can play at their usual level they could take advantage of Golden State’s inconsistent play. On the other side, if Curry can return to his usual scoring form and Green continues to be the defensive anchor, the Warriors will have a strong chance of securing a win.

Key matchups: Curry and Green vs. James and Davis

With the injuries in play, this game will be all about the matchups. Steph has been a consistent performer for the Warriors averaging 21.8 points and 6.6 assists per game, he will be crucial for the team’s offense. Draymond Green, averaging 8.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game, will start at power forward. With Green’s leadership on defense and Curry’s offensive brilliance, the Warriors will rely heavily on these two to try and control the pace of the game.

On the Lakers’ side, Davis and James are the key players to watch. Anthony has been playing at an MVP level, averaging 26.9 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game and LeBron in his 21st season is also putting up solid numbers with 23.2 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists per game. The team will rely on their two superstars to lead the way but their availability will be a critical point. Despite the injuries, the Lakers’ depth chart still includes capable players such as Rui Hachimura, Max Christie and Austin Reaves, who could play significant roles in supporting their star players.
