Can the Sixers survive without their star duo, or is this season already slipping away?

The wait for the Philadelphia 76ers new signing Paul George’s debut goes on for the Sixers faithful. They have had a rough start to the season suffering from back-to-back defeats, the first one came against the Bucks followed by another against the Raptors. Now, they will be facing the Indiana Pacers tonight and will hope to get their first win of the season.

One of the major reasons for this rough start is injuries to their key players Joel Embiid and Paul George. George has been missing due to a bone bruise on his left knee and will be out from tonight’s game against the Pacers. On Thursday the Sixers gave an update on his fitness and announced that he will miss the next two games including tonight’s game against the Pacers.

George, the nine-time All-Star, suffered this injury in the preseason playing against the Atlanta Hawks. He buckled on a defensive play in the second quarter of the game however the tests showed no structural damage. Before the injury, George averaged 15.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in the 2 games he played for his new team.

His absence has hurt the Sixers as he is crucial to their plans for the season. Philly signed the 34-year-old free agent on a four-year deal worth $212 Million. We’ve talked about George’s injury now let’s look at the Sixers injury report for the rest of the squad.

Alongside George, there is only Joel Embiid who is on the injury list for the Sixers. Embiid did not play any games in their preseason run due to what the Sixers are calling left knee injury management. Ahead of the opening game, it was announced that he would miss this week’s action including all three games after which he will be re-evaluated.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the NBA is set to investigate the 76ers over Joel Embiid’s player participation. It is normal for the NBA to investigate teams over player participation if a superstar misses a nationally televised game. The Sixers released a statement for Embiid saying he is “responding well to his individualized plan” and will return to playing activities soon.

PG– Tyrese Maxey, SG– Kyle Lowry, SF– Kelly Oubre Jr., PF– Caleb Martin, C– Andre Drummond.

Tyrese Maxey has been the offensive powerhouse for the side in George and Embiid’s absence and they will hope for a similar performance from him. But, he’ll need support from his teammates to get the Sixers across the line in tonight’s game.
