It has been seven months since the Mavs ended the Timberwolves’ historic playoff run to the West Finals. Sure enough, Anthony Edwards and Co. are seeking revenge for their brutal elimination, especially after they failed to beat the Mavs in October’s rematch. However, they will get another chance at redemption tomorrow as the two sides meet once again, this time for the Christmas Day encounter. And the Wolves could be at a huge advantage because the Mavs might be playing without their superstar Luka Doncic.
Yes, the Slovenian Sensation is on the injury report with a probable status. The reason? A left heel contusion. Well, he has been dealing with this issue for quite some time. He recently missed two straight games because of the lingering injury before returning to the lineup yesterday against the Trail Blazers. However, Luka looked in decent form upon his return as he went off for 27 points to lead his team to a blowout victory.
Sure enough, his team could struggle if he does not suit up tomorrow. That’s because Luka has clearly been their best player, averaging 28.8 points and over eight assists. Moreover, the Mavs might also be missing other key players. Obviously, Dante Exum remains out, still recovering from his right wrist surgery. Even Brandon Williams will miss his sixth straight game dealing with a sprained right thumb. Adding to the concerns, Jaden Hardy has been deemed questionable due to his ongoing ankle issues.

From the Timberwolves side, they will also play the game shorthanded, with Daishen Nix (ankle), Luka Garza (ankle), and Joe Ingles (calf), all out due to injury.
Mavericks and Timberwolves’ Depth Chart
With Luka’s availability in question, this is what the Mavs’ depth chart looks like:
Position | Starters | 2nd | 3rd |
PG | Luka Doncic (P) | Spencer Dinwiddie | Jazian Gortman |
SG | Kyrie Irving | Quentin Grimes | Kessler Edwards |
SF | Klay Thompson | Naji Marshall | Markieff Morris |
PF | P.J. Washington | Maxi Kleber | Olivier-Maxence Prosper |
C | Dereck Lively II | Daniel Gafford | Dwight Powell |
Obviously, a lot of Jason Kidd’s decisions will depend on Doncic’s final status. If he plays, the starting lineup is likely to remain the same as it was in the last game because it has been highly productive.

Well, they have been in terrible form recently, having lost their last three games. Moreover, Ant-Man has been struggling to put the ball in the basket as he failed to cross the 20-point mark in all three losses. Surely, the Wolves would be hoping to snap their streak tomorrow with a win against their West finals’ opponents.
The last time these two sides met back in October, Edwards dropped 37 points. Unfortunately, that was not enough to get his team the win as Luka and Kyrie combined for 59 points. Do you think the outcome will be different tomorrow?
