The Lakers are heating up. Following a brief struggling period, they have picked up steam once again and risen to the fifth rank in the West standings. And they are yet to lose a game this new year. But their momentum could take a hit tonight as they take on the second-seeded Rockets. Adding to the concerns, the Lakers might have to face that challenge without LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Yes, both superstars are currently listed on the injury report. LeBron is probable to suit up as he continues to work through his right foot injury. Obviously, he is just coming off a historic 30-point game, and his absence would be a massive blow to the team because he is having an incredible year, averaging 24.1 points and nearly nine assists.
Meanwhile, AD also holds a probable status for the game. The reason? A lingering ankle injury that has been bothering him for months. He even missed Thursday’s Blazers encounter because of the issue before returning against the Hawks the following night. Just like LBJ, Davis is also having a dominant season, averaging 25.8 points and nearly twelve rebounds.

Despite their entry on the injury report, Davis and James are likely to suit up, considering how crucial the game is for the team. A win against the higher-seeded Rockets would instantly boost them in the playoff race. But there are a few players who are definitely out for the encounter. As expected, Jarred Vanderbilt is still in his rehab process and yet to make his season debut. Moreover, Christian Wood (knee) and Jalen Hood-Schifino (hamstring) continue to remain out. Meanwhile, Gabe Vincent is also likely to miss his fourth straight game as he is doubtful with an oblique strain.
Lakers and Rockets’ Depth Chart
With LeBron and AD’s availability uncertain, this is what the Lakers’ depth chart looks like:
Position | Starters | 2nd | 3rd |
PG | Austin Reaves | Shake Milton | Quincy Olivari |
SG | Max Christie | Gabe Vincent (D) | Bronny James |
SF | Rui Hachimura | Dalton Knecht | Cam Reddish |
PF | LeBron James (P) | Dorian Finney-Smith | Armel Traore |
C | Anthony Davis (P) | Jaxson Hayes | Christian Koloko |
Obviously, the two stars will start the game if they decide to suit up. And Vincent’s absence would mean that Austin Reaves and Shake Milton will see significant increase in playing time.

Well, they will also be playing without some key players as Jabari Smith Jr. will miss his second straight game after fracturing his hand during practice. And he will be reevaluated in four to six weeks after getting a surgery. Adding to the concerns, Tari Eason remains doubtful with a lower leg injury. The good news is that Amen Thompson will make his return tonight after serving a two-game suspension for recent altercation with Heat players.
Surprisingly, this is Lakers and Rockets’ first meeting this season. Surely, each team will try to get the upper hand as it could determine the eventual playoff seedings. Last year, they split the season series at two games a-piece. Whose side are you on this time?
