The Phoenix Suns formed one of the most lethal offensive trios in league history when they acquired 3-time All-Star Bradley Beal this summer. He would join Kevin Durant and Devin Booker to form the Big 3 in Phoenix. The Suns immediately became one of the top contenders to win the Championship. But Phoenix has not started the season the way fans hoped. Kevin Durant and Co. have lost four of their first six games. The biggest reason for their disappointing start is that Bradley Beal and Devin Booker have been unavailable due to injury, and KD is carrying the load of the entire team.

Phoenix lost their third straight game last night as, despite all his talent, Kevin Durant could not beat the Philadelphia 76ers on his own. The NBA world is wondering whether KD’s stay in Phoenix will end up emulating his Brooklyn day. Here are some key takeaways from the Suns’ awful start to the season.

1. Kevin Durant cannot do it on his own

Kevin Durant is trying his best to keep his team afloat until Bradley Beal and Devin Booker return to the court. He is carrying the team on his shoulders, averaging 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks so far this season. But KD’s elite performance has not translated into wins. Durant and Co. lost to the reigning MVP Joel Embiid, and the Philadelphia 76ers 112-100 last night despite KD’s 31-point outing. That shows The Slim Reaper cannot make a run for the Championship if he is left stranded by his co-stars.

The Phoenix Suns are a top-heavy team, and they will not be able to achieve a lot of success if Devin Booker and Bradley Beal stay out for long. KD is in a similar situation as he was during his Brooklyn Days. Even though he had superstars like Kyrie Irving and James Harden as his teammates, KD was carrying the entire load of the team because Irving and Harden were busy resolving their issues off the court. That led to a disastrous run for KD in Brooklyn.

2. When will Devin Booker and Bradley Beal join Kevin Durant?

Unlike Kyrie Irving and James Harden in Brooklyn, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal are out due to injury. Booker made his return in the game against the Spurs after missing three straight games. But he was ruled out against Philadelphia due to ankle soreness. Bradley Beal is yet to make his Suns debut as he is out due to a back injury. The Phoenix Suns are uncertain about their superstars’ return to the floor.

3. The Phoenix Suns’ roster needs to step up their game

Kevin Durant is working like a horse at age 35. That will eventually take a toll on his health, causing him to miss games in the future. Until Beal and Booker return to the floor, the entire Suns squad needs to step up their game to take some load off KD’s shoulders. Phoenix does not have a lot of depth on their roster and that can create problems for the Suns moving forward. If they want to make a run for the title, every player on the roster will have to contribute in some way.

The NBA world is waiting to see the Phoenix Suns in full force because, with the strength of their offensive players, they would consider anything less than a deep playoff run or a Finals spot a massive failure for the team.
