Jonathan Kuminga has missed the last two games due to an unexpected illness. He wasn’t initially listed on the injury report before Sunday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, so his absence caught everyone off guard. The illness hit him right before the game, forcing him to sit out. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game that he believed Kuminga would be fine but that he had felt sick just before tip-off.

Unfortunately, Kuminga was also unavailable for the team’s subsequent loss to the Brooklyn Nets. This absence has added to the Warriors’ struggles, leaving fans hoping for his quick recovery. But now we might have some good news.

On Tuesday, the Warriors held practice, and head coach Steve Kerr confirmed that Kuminga participated. “JK practiced today and looked good, so I’m hopeful he’ll play tomorrow.” said Kerr on the WillardandDibs podcast. This is a positive sign for the Warriors, as it suggests the young forward might be ready to play against the OKC Thunder on Wednesday. It’s a boost for the team, especially with Kuminga’s return potentially helping their lineup.

Golden State is in dire need of a win. After dropping two straight, they face a critical test against Oklahoma City on Wednesday. Both teams have been fighting for position at the top of the Western Conference, and their matchup could be a game-changer for playoff seeding.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Kuminga has played in 15 games this season, with 12 of them coming off the bench. The former lottery pick is averaging 13.3 points in 22.7 minutes per game. With Kuminga entering restricted free agency this offseason, the Warriors’ approach to the trade deadline could be interesting to watch.

Will Jonathan Kuminga be traded for a veteran?

The Warriors may need to make a tough choice if they want to land Jerami Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers, and it could mean parting with Jonathan Kuminga. According to Tyler Watts from Blue Man Hoop, “(Jerami) Grant is another name constantly in the rumors, Portland is rebuilding and paying significant money to a 30-year-old forward does not fit their timeline. Grant helped the (Denver) Nuggets reach the conference finals in 2020 and has shown he can do more with the ball in his hands since.”

The Blazers, in full rebuild mode, have little use for a 30-year-old on a big contract. Grant’s versatility has made him an attractive trade piece, and it’s clear that he’s treating each game as a chance to prove his value to contenders.

At 6-foot-7, Grant offers a unique skill set. He can score inside or beyond the arc, and his defensive abilities make him a key asset for any team looking to contend. So far, he’s averaging 16.4 points a game, shooting 38.6% from the floor and 35.7% from three-point range.

For Golden State, acquiring Grant could be a smart move, especially with Curry’s window shrinking. It might sting to lose Kuminga, but adding a proven veteran like Grant would strengthen their chances to compete now. It’s a decision that would shake up the roster, but with their championship aspirations on the line, the Warriors might just pull the trigger.
