Is Joel Embiid risking too much by playing back-to-backs, or is it necessary for the Sixers?

“If I had to guess, I would probably never play back-to-backs the rest of my career.” The day has finally arrived to see if Joel Embiid sticks to his word. Yes, he made his season debut last night after weeks of injury management and off court drama. But as hyped as everyone was about it, his performance was rather underwhelming. And everyone is eager to find out if he will suit up for tonight’s back-to-back encounter against the Cavs. Well, Nick Nurse has given a positive update on the former MVP’s availability while also revealing Paul George’s status.

The Sixers’ head coach revealed that Embiid and PG have not yet been ruled out for the Cavs encounter. However, their final availability will be determined after a morning evaluation ahead of the game.

Playing on consecutive nights immediately after his return could risk reaggravating Embiid’s knee. Meanwhile, PG experienced an injury scare during Sunday’s game against the Hornets after being hit in the face. Although he managed to finish the game, he revealed that his vision was temporarily impaired due to a poke in the eye. He also received minor treatment to prevent further complications. Naturally, the Sixers will exercise extreme caution with their two superstars, even though Nurse has not ruled them out yet.

Well, the Sixers will need all the firepower they can get. Especially because they are going against an undefeated Cavs squad who have been unstoppable to start the season with twelve straight wins.

It looks like Embiid is certainly willing to play tonight. “I know I said I’d never play back-to-backs, but I’m a troll.” He remarked, contrary to what he initially claimed before the season began. Sure enough, it was evident during last night’s game that he needs more time on the floor to get back to MVP form. He was struggling to find his rhythm and scored only 13 points.

Moreover, he struggled with his shooting, making only two of his eleven field goal attempts. It’s clear it will take some time to shake off the rust, and Joel may need to play as many games as possible to regain his rhythm quickly. Adding to the Sixers’ challenges, Tyrese Maxey is sidelined with a right hamstring strain, making the availability of both Joel and PG even more critical. Would you agree?
