The New York Knicks are set to host the Utah Jazz in what could be a key matchup for both teams. While the Knicks (23-10) have been rolling with a strong record ranking third in the Eastern Conference, the Jazz have been struggling with a 7-24 record and 14th rank in the Western Conference. As we enter the game, one major question looms: Will Jalen Brunson play? The star guard is down with a calf injury, and his status for the game is still questionable. Given how important Brunson has been to the Knicks’ success this season, his availability could make or break New York’s chances of securing another win.
The Knicks come into this game with a couple of injury concerns. Brunson, despite dealing with a calf issue, played on Monday night against the Washington Wizards, contributing 18 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds in 36 minutes. However, with their game against Utah, it’s still uncertain whether he’ll suit up again. To make matters more difficult for the Knicks, starting center Mitchell Robinson will miss the game with an ankle injury. His absence will leave a hole in New York’s defense and rebounding.
As for the Jazz, they’re facing a similar situation. John Collins, a key forward for Utah, remains out with a hip injury, continuing to miss his fifth straight game. Additionally, rookie Taylor Hendricks is out for the season with a fibula injury, leaving the Jazz even more shorthanded.

Can the Knicks keep up without Jalen Brunson?
Jalen Brunson’s presence is crucial for the Knicks, and not just because of his scoring. Averaging 25.2 points, 7.7 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game, he’s been the engine that drives New York’s offense. Over the course of his career, Brunson has faced the Jazz 17 times but has only won 6 of those matchups. His most memorable performance against Utah came when he dropped 41 points as a member of the Dallas Mavericks back in 2022. If he’s able to play, the Knicks will undoubtedly rely on him to help keep their momentum going.
If he is sidelined, other Knicks players will need to step up. Karl-Anthony Towns, who’s been averaging 24.7 points and 13.5 rebounds, will probably play a major role in carrying the load. Mikal Bridges, contributing 18.3 points per game, has been a steady performer on both ends of the floor and will also need to play a big part in the team’s success.

For Utah, the absence of John Collins will hurt. Collins has been one of their most consistent players, averaging 17.7 points and 8.2 rebounds, and his experience would be valuable in a tough game like this. Instead, Lauri Markkanen, who’s been Utah’s top scorer with 19.6 points per game, will need to carry an even heavier load. Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson will also have to pick up the slack on the offensive end, but with a thin roster, they face a tough challenge.
The Jazz have struggled mightily this season, especially on the road where they hold a 5-12 record. In contrast, the Knicks have been nearly unbeatable at home, sporting a 10-4 record. The Jazz’s defense has been shaky, giving up 119.8 points per game, boding well for New York’s offense, which ranks 3rd in the league with 117.8 points per game.
