The Milwaukee Bucks are riding high after winning their NBA Cup earlier this week. Giannis Antetokounmpo was their standout player in the tournament, earning MVP honors. But now the Bucks have a new challenge to face. As they gear up for this Eastern Conference clash against the Cleveland Cavaliers, tonight’s game promises to be a high-stakes showdown.

The Cavaliers are currently the top team in the conference with a 23-4 record. Meanwhile, the Bucks (14-11) are aiming to extend their four-game winning streak. This game not only holds excitement for the fans but also raises some concerns, particularly regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. Both players have been pivotal for the Bucks, and heading into the matchup, the team might be without one of their stars or maybe even both of them. So, who will be suiting up for Milwaukee, and how will the Cavaliers adjust to the absences?

For the Bucks, the injury situation is a bit serious. Damian Lillard is ruled out of this game due to a right calf strain he sustained during their NBA Cup victory. Giannis Antetokounmpo dealing with a right patella tendinopathy is listed as probable for the game.  Khris Middleton is also on hold as he is recovering from a non-COVID-19-19 illness. Meanwhile, on the Cavaliers’ side, Max Strus is listed as out with an ankle injury and Isaac Okoro joins him on the sidelines for at least two weeks due to a shoulder issue.

What to expect from both teams

The Cavaliers come into this matchup as a well-rounded squad, despite missing Okoro and Strus. Donovan Mitchell has been leading the team with 23.3 points per game with contributions from Darius Garland with, 20.3 points and 6.5 assists. The Cavs have a high-powered offense that leads the NBA in field goal and three-point percentage, making them a strong opponent, even for a team like the Bucks. Their defense has been strong as well, ranking among the top 10 teams in terms of efficiency with players like Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

Can the Bucks overcome the Cavs without Lillard and possibly Giannis? Is their depth enough?

For Milwaukee, the absence of Lillard leaves a noticeable gap in their backcourt. He was averaging 25.7 points and 7.5 assists this season, and without him, players like AJ Green, or Delon Wright, may be called upon to step up and provide much-needed scoring and playmaking.

With both teams dealing with injuries, the matchup will be a battle of adjustments. For the Bucks, the availability of Giannis and Khris Middleton could make a huge difference. The Cavs have their own set of challenges, especially with Strus’ unavailability, leaving them with fewer options on the wing.

As the Bucks prepare to face the Cavaliers, the big question remains: Can they still perform at a high level without Lillard and maybe Giannis? It’s clear that the matchup will be challenging, but with the depth they’ve shown recently, Milwaukee has the tools to remain competitive. Cleveland on the other side has a stellar form and balanced roster which will present a tough test for the Bucks. This game could have a lasting impact on both teams as the season unfolds.
