Houston Rockets’ Alperen Sengun is a star on the rise. The Turkish baller, who entered the league in 2021-22, initially went unnoticed, only making cameos off the bench. Two years since, he has now developed into a much-improved player, doubling his rookie season average to 20.2 points. For fans of the Rockets, as they yearn to fill the James Harden void, Sengun will offer some solace. Mirroring the likes of Nikola Jokic, will the Turk become Houston’s first All-Star since the Beard?

Notably, the Rockets have defeated the Jokic-led Denver Nuggets twice in the season so far. Sengun’s consistency and play-making ability in both games urged many to label him a ‘generational talent’. But, as is the case in the NBA, fans have heard this before.

Ever since James Harden left the Houston Rockets, the team has yet to see an All-Star player on their roster. By the looks of it, Alperen Sengun and his in-form teammates can change this.

Given the appreciation coming his way from bigwigs, Sengun is likely on the right path. Notably, Nikola Jokic batted for him in a press conference, reported Sports Illustrated. The Nuggets star said, “This guy has the talent. He can pass the ball. He can post up. He has the touch around the rim. You can see some different moves that he’s made.”

Further, Sengun has also reiterated his desire to land a spot on the All-Star team. Sitting alongside Paul George, in the recent episode of Podcast P with Paul George, he said, “Of course, I want to be All-Star.”  But, the youngster didn’t stop there, he also had more dreams in him.

He added, “I want to be Championship [Champion], we just want to win like you know I just want to be in a great spot.” While PG listened to Sengun’s dreams, his teammate, James Harden, by then had already expressed his appreciation for the youngster.

James Harden has re-affirming words for Alpi Sengun

Before sitting down for the podcast, the Rockets met the LA Clippers at the Crypto.com arena, eventually losing the game 100-106. Sengun, further, had something to share about his interaction with James Harden during the game. The Beard, as he met the player on the edges of the court, said to Sengun, “I’m so proud of you,” and asked the Turkish baller to keep it up. Be that as it may, Sengun no doubt has big shoes to fill.
