You say ‘fierce’, we hear Russell Westbrook. Now in his 17th season in the NBA, Brodie is standing up for his team when they need him the most. Well, Monday wasn’t the day for the Denver Nuggets. Their terrible 118-145 loss against the New York Knicks at the Ball Arena was disappointing, to say the least. However, it was Westbrook who came in as the beacon of hope. But, dare we say it, his hope was a costly one.

Coming off the bench, Russell Westbrook dictated the fourth quarter of the game. In his 26 minutes of action, the 36YO point guard scored a solid 27 points. And in the excitement or frustration, that’s for you to decide, Brodie flipped off the Knickerbocker’s bench.

Well, the league officials have been really strict lately. Thus, the NBA has fined Russell Westbrook $35,000 for his obscene actions. Executive Vice President Joe Dumars announced the news via X. After the blowout loss, the 9x NBA All-Star didn’t need this fine now.

However, the fans aren’t quite happy about the verdict. They believe the league has chosen to become ‘soft.’ The die-hards argue that the officials apply the rules too harshly these days. But don’t be surprised; you know Russell has received such penalties before.

Russell Westbrook’s fine comes after he created history for the Nuggets

What’s your perspective on:

Is the NBA too harsh on Westbrook, or is his passion crossing the line?

The 2016/17 league MVP, well-acquainted with fines, has reportedly lost over $500K throughout his career—thanks largely to his knack for technical fouls, according to Spotrac. In Wednesday’s hard-fought win at Utah, the 36-year-old added yet another to his tally, marking his second technical of the season. Well, of course, flipping off one’s ops or collecting fines isn’t a matter of making history. It was Russell Westbrook’s outstanding 24-point fourth-quarter show that has added him to the Pantheon of the Greats.

The final lap of Monday’s game witnessed Brodie’s dominance. He added 24 points to the chart and made history with the same. Thus adding his name alongside Michael Jordan and Jamal Crawford as the third player at least 36 years old with 24 points or more in a single quarter. Sadly, his efforts weren’t of much use for the Denver Nuggets who fell prey to the Knicks. Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook is averaging 12.2 points per game in the 2024-25 NBA season.

Russell Westbrook never shies away from the spotlight, whether it’s making history or sparking controversy. At 36, he’s still breaking records and reminding everyone why he’s a star. Sure, the fine stings, but Brodie’s fire is what keeps fans on their toes. But, the $35K? Sadly, he’s got to pay it for his actions!
