Nikola Jokic ties his wedding ring to his shoes—Is this the most romantic gesture in sports?

Everybody knows why Nikola Jokic does it, do they not? To keep his family close to him, at all times. It was last year that NBA Europe had a quick chat with the 3x MVP about his tradition of tying the ring to his shoes. And unsurprisingly, the devoted family man that he is, Nikola said, “It’s family – something just really important to me. And they always by my side. So, I just want to give them the love.” While that is a reason, it apparently wasn’t the only reason.

And no, it isn’t a superstition. Just so that we are clear on that front. The real reason is just so casually random and completely hilarious. Well, not the tying to the shoe, the other one. So what did the 2023 champ reveal this time? “I lost it and I lost the second ring that my wife got me,” he said in the most Jokic way ever before it hit him.

Almost like saying it aloud just made him realize how careless he has been. Furthermore, he was asked if he planned on continuing the tradition and he said, “No,” in a way that said if he lost the ring again, there would be consequences. Can’t blame Natalija, now, can we?

Interestingly, Jokic isn’t the only one who has the tradition of tying wedding rings to their shoes. And losing them.

Former Cavaliers champion, Mathhew Dellavedova, also finds it safe to tie his gold band to the shoes. Unlike Nikola, the veteran Australian guard is yet to lose it. However, our resident Serb does have company in the form of 3x Grand Slam singles title winner, Andy Murray. The former British tennis player also followed this routine but got into a little bit of trouble in 2021.

Murray had left his sweaty tennis shoes underneath the car to get some air into them and dry out overnight. Unfortunately, when he arrived the next morning, the shoes and the ring were stolen. Thankfully, a few calls and a chat with the hotel security saw his smelly shoes and ring return safely.

The Nuggets big man, though, has a genius idea that is going to be incredibly helpful for all the forgetful husbands out there!

Nikola Jokic’s signature shoes include a stroke of brilliance

The BIG3 Future PE “Joker” – one of the signature shoes in his BIG3 Future series with 361 Degree, went viral for Nikola’s tribute to his wife. On the tongue, there were two intertwined rings – one green and the other red, with both their names. But perhaps what became even more appealing was another, quite practical feature.

There was a little pocket built into the tongue where one could safely keep the ring while you go about your business.

Well, pretty sure many would find it really helpful. But it just goes to show how much his family means to Nikola Jokic. Even amid the excitement of launching his own signature line, he dedicated the first to his wife. Hopefully, that’s enough to keep him out of the doghouse (think it’s stable at the Jokic household?) if he loses that ring again.
