The Cavs are going through a bit of a rough patch. Last night, they lost a crucial game against the reigning champs, Boston Celtics. And they hoped to shake off that upset tonight by getting a win against the Pistons. Amidst a brand-new in-form star potentially heading to Cleveland, however, their misery continued as Donovan Mitchell was unfortunately ruled out for the back-to-back encounter!

Yes, Mitchell will not suit up against the Detroit franchise. The reason? A right shoulder injury. Well, Spida has been fairly healthy for the majority of this season and tonight would be his third missed game.

Donovan’s absence is a massive blow because he has been in incredible form, averaging 23.8 points and nearly five assists. And he has played a key role in his team’s success. Of course, he was rewarded for it by being named an All-Star starter. Joining him as Reserves were his teammates, Evan Mobley and Darius Garland, making Cleveland the only team this year with three selections. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise considering how dominant they have been.

Now that Spida Mitchell is unavailable for tonight, Caris LeVert will take his spot in the starting lineup. Well, this is LeVert’s fourth season in Cleveland and he has done an incredible job as a backup shooting guard. Sure, his numbers have declined from last season. But Caris is still a consistent 10+ points scorer coming off the bench. And he has confidently taken on the occasional starting role in Mitchell’s absence. However, that might not remain the case for very long!

Cavaliers could trade Caris LeVert for a ‘massive upgrade’ at the deadline

Well, the Cleveland franchise has looked like a well-oiled machine this season. Having lost only ten games so far, they sit comfortably on top of the East standings. But they might need more pieces to boost their chances of winning a championship, as many other contenders have made significant sustainable upgrades at the deadline.

Turns out, they have reported interest in Hawks forward De’Andre Hunter. While the future free agent has been demoted to a bench role, he is surprisingly having the best year of his career, averaging 18.9 points and nearly four rebounds!

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Cavs survive without Donovan Mitchell, or is their season already slipping away?

Have an interesting take?

Adding him would give the Cavaliers a lot of depth. Latest reports suggest that the trade package for the Hawks star could include sending Caris LeVert and potentially a couple of other pieces to Atlanta. Sure enough, the Cavs’ core is set with the Big Three of Mitchell, Garland, and Mobley. Adding pieces like Hunter to the bench would surely make them a legitimate threat to win it all.

So, don’t be surprised if you hear of the blockbuster trade before tomorrow’s deadline.
