The Timberwolves aim to continue its strong run after five consecutive victories. And they demonstrate all indications- that they will continue making significant waves throughout the Western Conference. Well, Anthony Edwards has become the central presence, and he has taken defenses to flames through his high-level scoring alongside advanced passing abilities. In a recent game, he delivered 36 points clubbed with 11 assists. Through his performances, he has showcased what makes him a rising elite star in the NBA.

So, heading into what should be an easy matchup against the struggling Wizards, everything should feel great, right? But something’s definitely off…

Anthony Edwards has been playing some of the best basketball of his career. In January, he became the first-ever player in the Timberwolves history with 450+ points, 50+ rebounds, and 50+ assists in a month! So finding out, he won’t be suiting up tonight!? Yeah, that’s a gut punch. He’s out with an illness. While it doesn’t sound like anything serious long-term, it’s bad enough to keep him out of action today. Chris Finch confirmed the same, pregame, saying Ant just wasn’t well enough to go.

This is a weird spot for both Edwards and the Wolves. He’s been insanely durable all season—he hasn’t missed a single game. Not just that, but he’s been their most reliable offensive weapon. Over his last 10 games, he’s been on a ridiculous tear—31.2 points per game, shooting 48.1% from the field and 43% from three. If he’s sitting out, you know whatever he’s dealing with is really messing with him.

Without him, the Wolves will have to get creative on offense. Nickeil Alexander-Walker is probably going to take on a bigger role. Guys like Jaylen Clark and Terrence Shannon Jr. should see some extra minutes too. The depth is there, sure. But let’s not pretend you can just replace what Edwards does—his impact is next level, even against a team like the Wizards. But is Ant the only one sidelined?

Timberwolves’ Hot Streak Hits a Wall as Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle Sidelined…

What’s your perspective on:

With Edwards out, will the young guns rise to the occasion or crumble under pressure?

Have an interesting take?

Unlike Anthony Edwards, who’s just sick, Julius Randle’s dealing with a groin injury from Thursday’s win over Utah. This one sounds a little more concerning. Finch confirmed he’s going to be out for more than a few days. That definitely doesn’t sound promising. The Wolves might have to get used to being without him for a bit.

Randle had really started to find his groove with this team. He brought that toughness and inside scoring they needed. Plus, he was clicking well with Ant. Losing both of them at the same time? Not ideal. Naz Reid is stepping into the starting lineup. He’s been solid whenever called upon, but this is going to be a big test for him.

Oh, and let’s not forget Donte DiVincenzo is out too, with a left toe sprain. He’s not as big of a loss as Edwards or Randle. But still, losing a guy who gives you perimeter defense and shooting depth isn’t great. On the positive side, Donte doesn’t require surgery.

With all the obstacles considered, the Wolves are still positioned to secure this upcoming win. The Wizards hold a forgettable position of the last seed among NBA teams in the current standings. The Minnesota side, on the other hand, stands at its best moment, especially to display its depth capabilities. The game represents a genuine test that demands Wolves to demonstrate their strength.

Hopefully, this is just a short-term thing, and Anthony Edwards can get back out there soon. He’s been the driving force behind this team’s success. The sooner he’s back, the better.
