More trouble for the Spurs. Well, they have been without Gregg Popovich for the last couple of weeks since he suffered a mild stroke. And they are trying their best to stay afloat with Mitch Johnson as the interim head coach. But just when the San Antonio side was starting to find their groove with a 4-4 record in their beloved Coach Pop’s absence, another massive setback halted their momentum, as Victor Wembanyama found himself on the injury report ahead of tonight’s Mavs encounter.

As per the latest update, the French sensation has been ruled out because of a right knee contusion. Well, he suffered the injury during last night’s loss against the Lakers after banging his knees with Anthony Davis.

Last night, Wemby fell straight to the floor after the collision with AD. And he also left the game momentarily to assess the injury in the locker room. Fortunately, the hoopster could finish the game and even dropped a 28-point double-double.

But it looks like the Frenchman is feeling the aftermath of the blow tonight. Victor also addressed the injury after yesterday’s loss, saying, “A little beat up right now. I took a big hit. It’s just a hit. I didn’t twist nothing. This is not a big deal. So, if ever tomorrow it’s like horrible, of course, I’ll be smart. But I should be alright.”

It is likely not a major injury, but Wemby is honestly doing the smart thing by resting and letting his knee recover completely, instead of playing on back-to-back nights. But, on the other hand, that could lead to trouble for the Spurs tonight.

Victor Wembanyama’s health adds to Spurs’ injury concerns

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Spurs survive without Popovich and Wembanyama, or is this the beginning of the end?

Obviously, playing without Wemby leaves a major void in Coach Pop’s setup, both offensively and defensively. The team had a 3-8 record in the youngster’s absence last season. Sure enough, this season too, he’s been their best player so far, averaging 22.7 points and over 10 rebounds. Moreover, he has been a menace on defense, putting up 3.7 blocks per game.

It will be a massive challenge for the Spurs to stop Luka Doncic and Co. without him. However, they’ll have problems, not only because of Victor Wembanyama’s absence, more so also because they will be missing other key names as well.

Yes, Devin Vassell is also out for the back-to-back encounter because of right foot injury management. Averaging 19.5 points, the hoopster was their second-leading scorer last year. Meanwhile, Jeremy Sochan remains out because of the left thumb fracture he suffered earlier this season. So, the San Antonio Spurs will be missing some serious firepower tonight. And that could prove costly against the Mavs who will be trying desperately to snap their four-game losing streak.
