Will it be hard to believe that it was a rapper who gave Steph the iconic nickname? Yes, it was the Canadian rapper/singer Drake. The singer and Curry have a great friendship and it often shows up at events and shows. During Drake’s 2023 music tour, It’s All A Blur, he gave a shout-out to the Dubs superstar and his family. Importantly, he referred to Steph as his brother.

Curry‘s nickname is widely popular among social media users as they mostly refer to the superstar as Chef in the comments. The name became popular because of a song dropped by Drake, along with Steph’s wife, Ayesha Curry. The song titled Chef Curry With The Pot sung by Drake and Ayesha took over the internet by storm in 2014. Moreover, Mrs. Curry dropped the video song on her YouTube which garnered more than 5 million views until 2023.

Substantially, the name Chef Curry became popular among the hoops community; eventually becoming synonymous with the superstar.

Furthermore, in an interview with Wired, the superstar himself clarified the origin story of the nickname. He said, “Drake dropped the first line… which is obviously a call to me kind of cooking him up on the court.” However, he concluded by saying, “The real Chef Curry is Ayesha Curry.”
