It comes as no surprise that LeBron James is a man of many interests. When he is not wreaking havoc on the basketball court, he can frequently be seen enjoying some NFL action. And everyone is aware of his minority stake in Liverpool FC. However, despite his constant involvement in multiple sports, fans were left slightly bemused when they found out that their beloved King was watching Division II soccer and singing praises of a lesser-known 29-year-old, Robby Dambrot.

In a game between Loudoun United FC and FC Tulsa on Matchday 15 of the USL Championship, Loudoun dominated with a 3-goal victory, while also keeping a clean sheet. The final goal was scored by Robby Dambrot in the 54th minute with a beautiful curler from outside the box. As he celebrated his goal with a shovel celebration, his skills caught the attention of LeBron James, who shared the video on X saying, “The Man, The Myth, The Legend!!” Notably, he was reminiscing about an unexpected old connection.

But why was King James so interested? As it turns out, Robby is the son of the legendary basketball coach Keith Dambrot, who also coached LeBron James during his High School days at St. Vincent-St. Mary when he was just a teenager. It was under Dambrot’s leadership that James won back-to-back state titles and set up the foundation of being deemed ‘The Chosen One’.

Despite having left his wing a long time ago, LeBron continues to keep up with the life of Coach Keith and his family, as was also seen when the Keith-led Duquesne made it to the NCAA tournament earlier this year. Sending out new Bron sneakers to the entire team, the vet wrote a message, “Yessir!! Best of luck guys!!” And watching LeBron James give flowers to his coach’s son only proves how much he cares for the people who have impacted his life.

Confused fans question LeBron James’ soccer knowledge

After King James sent out the tweet highlighting Robby Dambrot’s amazing goal, fans were left with tons of questions. And the first one that came to mind was, “Who is the legend?” Apart from being a legendary coach’s son, Robby is an Ohio native who is in his second stint with Loudoun United. Rejoining the club back in December, he has massively improved the defensive lineup of his team. In his previous stint with the Red and White which lasted two years, he scored one goal and two assists for the team.

Meanwhile, one fan was just left marveling at LeBron James’ knowledge of multiple sports and questioned if there is any sport he does not know. Back in 2011, James bought a 2% stake in Liverpool FC and has already made a huge profit on that investment. So, he definitely has decent knowledge of the sport, at least from a business perspective.

And there was one netizen who pointed out that LeBron James’ one tweet will help increase the USL Championship’s viewership massively. Praising Dambrot’s talent in front of his nearly 53 million followers, he accomplished his purpose of getting the eyeballs on the second division and his former coach’s son.

Meanwhile, there were also a few fans who were questioning LeBron’s knowledge of the game, with one claiming that he might not have even watched the game!

And there was another who took it one step further by comparing LeBron’s soccer knowledge to the time when his good friend Draymond Green made an appearance on a UEFA Champions League game analyst panel alongside a legend like Thierry Henry.

But despite the fans’ mixed reactions, it is great to see LeBron James uplifting smaller leagues and new talent even if it’s because he has connections with the players on that team. Do you agree?
